330cian
I've had a look through older threads on this topic, but wondered what the latest thinking is on this. I know you don't get a lot in terms of out-and-out power increases with a normally aspirated engine, but I'm looking for better throttle response, more torque, and more mid-range punch. Is it worth remapping, and who are the market leaders for the E46? Thanks, Ian.
mneth1986
Do the throttle adaptation reset and pay for a good service mate, wouldn't bother with a remap 330cian and mit
Daz 330 Cs
As above, its money wasted on a n/a 46 mit
330cian
Thanks, but what's the throttle adaptation test? The car has recently had an Inspection 1 from BMS BMW & Mini specialist, and is running beautifully. I know people in the VAG world who have remapped Golf V6 4Motions and R32's and have been delighted with the change in availability of power, particularly in the mid range. So something similar to this is not the experience of you guys with the 46?
BlueCS
B W ChipTune do a pretty mean map for the 330. A guy posted his before/after dyno printout not long back and it was pretty damn impressive. 330cian
330cian
Thanks BlueCS, Just found a great review for Jason of BW Chiptune. It seems this chap may have written a great map for the n/a 330 E46. Going to ring him tomorrow for a chat.
330cian
SYC posted on here with his before and after graph. 225 before, 242 after. This is a great result, but I'm interested more in low down torque and mid range punch increases. Looking forward to speaking to Jason tomorrow. mit
The latest thinking is it's still a waste of money.
330cian
I'd argue that if I get a similar result to SYC, it would be £250 very well spent, Mit. And if this increase improves economy, low-down torque and midrange acceleration, it'll be an absolute bargain!
Marcus
I was happy with my remap from emaps. got a good deal and it definatley feels better and has improved mpg.
mit
The only difference you're experiencing is from the throttle adaptation reset. You can do that yourself for free. Burn the money if you want, it's yours to spend as you please. It won't make the slightest difference to your car other than in your mind, and the £250 would be better spent on a driving experience day where you learn about skid control or whatever else will make you a better driver. Many of us have had remaps and not noticed a difference and we speak from experience. Also you have no way of knowing if your car has already been mapped. My remap was from Jason @ BW Chiptune and although I'd recommend him as an independent BMW specialist, the map is still a waste of money. DJ Syxx
The 330s are already mapped pretty well from factory. You won't get much gains out of it as your expecting. Personally I'd save the money but up to you.
BlueCS
So what we're saying here is that the dyno printouts are all a load of rubbish? That vendors are intentionally robbing people by producing phony results? Sent from my XT1032 using Tapatalk
Daz 330 Cs
We don't know how accurate the figures are that SYC posted. As everyone knows, Dyno figures vary from place to place. I'm speaking from experience when I say I noticed very small ( if any ) gains after spending north of £200 on a remap. The mpg may have increased, very slightly. As DJ says, the 330 goes rather well in stock form and isn't a slow car.
330cian
But these figures are on the same day, same dyno, before and after? How much more proof do you want?
mneth1986
You'll get used to the extra 15bhp within about 50 miles though mate, then you'll want a bit more power again...also the extra 2 mpg is hardly worth the initial £250 outlay, may as well save it for if something goes wrong, or fill it with super unleaded. Better still roll the window down and stick your head out while driving, dogs love the excitement and it does feel like your going faster!!! You're not understanding me, on a different dyno the figures could be different.
BlueCS
Forget other dynos. What matters is that car made over15bhp and over 20ftlb more than pre map on that dyno on that day. Yes it may make slightly different on another one but the percentage increase will still stand. 330cian
/\/\/\/\/\/\ Like what Blue CS says, Daz! My point was it's the same Dyno, same day, before and after the remap. You can't argue that the remap has not brought about a significant increase in both power and torque.
SpanneR
You cant really tell the difference unless its 10% so other than dyno figures which is a lottery in its self there isnt much point unless you decided to throw a turbo on it or SC even then you may as well just buy a faster car
