twoblacklines
So yesturday I did the exhaust flap mod consisting of pulling off the vacuum (mine tore up one side) and I have two questions. 1. Can I get high temp tape so I can tape it back on? 2. Is there any way to have an override switch fitted? My car is an auto so 5 speed therefore it DRONES quite badly at cruising speed with the mod enabled. I would like to be able to keep valve open by pressing a switch either in car or in bonnet, and when switch is not active the valve functions as per OEM. Possible? Thanks! autosri
If you pull the side carpet back above the passenger side rear light you will see the solenoid that controls it Unplug it ground one pin and run a ignition live through a switch to the other pin Then you have control over the original setup
twoblacklines
Cheers mate. Are the terminals marked? It is too dark (and raining) to have a look now. Will normal cable do or is it a lower AWG cable for the connectors? I take it if I run i the length of the car I should inline fuse it at both ends (used to be into car audio!)? EDIT: Where did you choose to ground it? Edited October 15, 2014 by twoblacklines
autosri
Doesn't matter which from memory its just a coil You can either cut the plug off and connect to that or I think small speaker terminal spades fit on the terminals I'd use something like 1mm2 cable with red crimps and there is no need to fuse both ends just as close to the start you could tag into the fag lighter put a 5 amp inline fuse then to your switch then to coil I grounded to a screw a few inches away don't matter really
twoblacklines
OK I will try and find a screw. In my last car I grounded my sub amp to a screw shared by the rear wiper motor...which blew up about a month later which is why I am wary given how expensive facelift LED lights are! Do you think the switch will work with the same kind of button the heated seats / DSC are controlled by? I could stencil an exhaust picture onto a blank one if I can get them from BMW for neatness!
