Gravy
I have a feeling that my thermostat is on the way out/faulty. The temp gauge is being fairly hit and miss, sometimes at 12 o'clock sometimes more 11 on the same journey. My local mechanic is a good guy I trust but he isnt a BMW/German specialist. Cheers
marc l
I'd just change it. It can only be the thermostat really.
Mr Xen
Look in the top right forum search bar you will find lots of info on this...... Take your car on a 30 min ish drive and check the temperature reading on the secret menu If I remember right the temperature should show 78 deg c constantly if it's below this it means the thermostat is goosed and you need to change it Obviously run the car up first to get it near temp then check Hope this helps Edited November 6, 2014 by Mr Xen Gravy

mjn
Won't show on a diagnostic check, and temp should be around 88-92 degrees.
TriggerFish
As above When mine failed it sat at 77c (but was still fine on the dash, although I've now changed the dash so it's only upright between 85-95)
chunky899
Mines goosed. 77° constantly when "warm" and mpg has been affected too! This morning it didn't even reach the middle of the gauge on a 17 mile drive! ....Phone.....
the_driller
You dont need to be a bmw specialist to change a thermostat lol. I would do the water pump too unless it's been done recently.. Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk

bachu
I changed mine when I bought the car 3 years ago, I kept an eye on it but never got past 85, was informed to buy a genuine bmw thermo and it reaches temp quicker and to the correct temp. I would try genuine part I bought mine from costwold bmw, I got mine for £55 delivered. just say your part of this forum and bmwland, you need to speak to ed. great guy good luck :-)
