Quiksilver_TR
Thinking about having the rear windows tinted on the coupe. Plan to keep the car for another 12-18months before I buy a new car and I have some summer trips to do with the family and I hate them roller blinds that cling to windows. So, what tints % wise do people have, can you post some pics please. Also anybody any good at photoshop run some shops on these images to give me an idea please. Looking to only have the rear sides and the rear screen done. And not looking for limo black, after a "light smoke" Edited January 17, 2015 by Quiksilver_TR
feva
A decent tint place will have a tint level that is to factory oem tint level. Had my e90 done like this imo looks far better that going too dark. Je suis Charlie Quiksilver_TR

CharlE46
Another option over tinting is custom fit sun shades that fit the entire window and look/work like a tint but can be removed again, loads cheaper than getting tints done aswell - http://www.uvcarshades.co.uk/privacy-shades-series-door-1998-p-2721.html
Trevor
I've considered this, mainly to stop screen glare on the stereo. ☺ Seen several coupes with it done tho and it looks crap. I've learned to live with the screen glare. CharlE46

I've learned to live with the screen glare. I was considering it aswell for the exact same reason, interesting that they look crap, from all the photo's I'd seen I thought it looked good - goes to show photo's can lie. The wife also wants them to help keep the car cooler in the summer for the dogs, perhaps I'll get her a set and go from there.

Can sell them on when I sell the car too. Never seen them that cheap though. Any pics of them fitted to a coupe? How do they fix in with the fixings? Are the fixings sticky and you stick them to the interior trims and then clip the shades in? Edited January 18, 2015 by Quiksilver_TR
Trevor
The tints I've seen have been proper dark, limo black I think it's called. Looks dreadful. Van like. A lighter tint may look better, but it's not cheap to try it and see. Edited January 18, 2015 by Trevor Quiksilver_TR
lloyd_330
I think a factory tint can look really nice, not limo but a nice 20% tint would look great on your car mate
lloyd_330
This is the best i can get from an app on my iPhone to give you an idea, And then slightly darker, I think the first looks better Quiksilver_TR
Quiksilver_TR
Nice one Lloyd, thanks very much for doing them. Can I ask what app that is pls? First one does look better than the 2nd. Just worried I'll get it done and then hate it. A mate of mine said 30% on the rear would look alright, but I got not idea what 30% looks like on these. lloyd_330
Its called wrapp app you can completely change the colour of your car and stuff but its tricky, and i think your best bet is go speak to a tinting company and they will physically lay the tints on your windows to help you choose, but i think a slight tint would look lovely Quiksilver_TR

The side windows have little tabs that slide under the window seals, the rear has a couple of sticky clips that attach to the window (under the black border of window) easy to remove leaving no marks etc Haven't got any pictures, google images may bring something up but as they fill the window entirely they should look like a tint. I think on the link there is a video showing how they fit and it'll give you an idea of darkness etc **EDIT, this link has a video http://www.blinds4cars.com/acatalog/BMW-E39-Sun-Blinds.html * Edited January 18, 2015 by CharlE46 Quiksilver_TR

lloyd_330
I was gonna get mine done but haven't bothered yet, i got quoted £70 for all back 3 which wasn't bad at all, i thought about having the fronts slightly tinted but they said that over time water gets in down the sides and makes the tint peel so i shouldn't bother. Should really get my hardtop rear tinted though WhackyWill
