Emirror DIY with Pics

Recommended Posts

Ok i purchased this module for my car a few months back and got sent the wrong one and had to return it for a e46 instead of a e39 module, I recieved it today and fitted it.

Overall time taken: 30 mins

Difficulty: medium

Ok 1st I got the kit out the jiffy envelope and read instructions

Then I got some tools (screwdrivers, pliers, cutters,) and went out to the car

1st remove glove box by opening it and removing 6 screws, 3 along front edge and 2 behind the straps that hold it from dropping down and 1 on bottom of glove box underside

pic2.JPG

When I had removed glovebox and dropped it down to bottom of the footwell I could see all this

pic3.JPG

I then had to remove the middle plug on the main module pictures here with red arrow

pic4.JPG

Disconnected the plug and removed its casing by sliding a small screwdriver down into its clip

pic5.JPG

seperated clip into two sides, both sides had numbers showing pin number for each side

pic6.JPG

I then installed the supplied clips onto 3 wires as follows

Pin 10 brown/black cable

Pin 47 red/violet cable

Pin 9 white/red/yellow cable

I then plugged in the 3 cables from the module into the clips

brown on module = brown/black

red on module = red/violet

white on module = white/red/yellow

I then reassembled plug and connected it back where it came from

pic7.JPG

I had a sneaky look at whats inside the module and found one side just has a chip and the other has various resistors and diodes looks a bit complicated but I guess could be copied

Next up I had to remove this plug and its casing

pic10.JPG

I added two crimp connectors onto pin 12 and pin 1 from this plug and reasembled plug housing and plugged back in

pic11.JPG

Last picture shows the module and all its wires plugged in, the module sits in one of the empty slots and the wires i've tucked away underneath

pic12.JPG

I reasembled the glove box and tested it and took a video

It folds on lock and unlock instantly without holding, on the e39 module I had before you could wire it slightly differently so it folds on holding button but the e46 one didn't mention it in the instructions.

Good work sir. Have you finally put all the interior back together from Saturday ! B)

Yes the bluewater meet was more like a car assembly course for me, My fingers hurt from it after. today fitting this module was easy peasy in comparison

next up Mikey im thinking of getting the oem nav/tv retrofit done but it could be a better option to just buy an m3 with it fitted!

Definitely go the OEM buddy either retrofit or supplied with an M3 ! B)

Definitely won't regret it. I'm going to get the Freeview tuner and rear screens added shortly.

hey i have a friend who has just bought a 328i coupe, in it he has the standard Tape headunit but in the back the two rear headrests have TV's in them!

I know he isn't going to bother ever using them so he would sell them in exchange for some black leather replacements yours would be perfect

I will try to meet up with him and take a few pictures of them find out what exactly they are, could be a win win for mikeywinn

Cool. The only prob is I think that verts and coupes have different seats so not sure about the fitment. Plus my headrests are electric. B)

Nice write up!

I assume the only other thing you need is folding mirrors?! B)

Also, did your car already have electric folding mirrors and this just wires it to the central locking?

mine had folding mirrors and mirror switch already, i first changed to m3 rep mirrors from ebay and then fitted this module to make them fold on the key

its great fun scaring people as they walk past my car, I have CCTV looking down on my car parked on the street, i can press my unlock button from my pc desk whilst sitting here on forum and my mirrors fold down and then up to scare passers by. I may run out my battery at this rate

I got it from USA through Umnitza, it took 2 months to arive and when it did it was for a e39 or e38 and didn't work

for the money I paid and the time it took i'd rather have just got it direct from the manufacturer, they gladly changed it to the correct unit and customer service was great. They spoke nice english as well ja.

goto shop then eMirror is in there

Nice one, I'm looking to get some folding M3 mirrors so does that mean I will need the switch as well ? Mine are electric but not folding obviously ? Sorry for my limited knowledge on this.

afaik you need the module thing i have as well, I think this is the mirror folding module you may be missing

pic9.JPG

check behind glovebox to see if you have that, and if you do maybe something else is missing, I have a 2 pin plug for folding that is seperate in the doors I dont know if you will have that

The yanks have made them work using a module thats not OEM i see if i can find a thread for it on fanatics

http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.ph...tofold+retrofit

info here would be helpful, I was lucky and had mirror switch and folding module as my old mirrors folded already, just needed the Emirror

looks like the SAM0.1 module may be another option to get them folding on the keyfob

Good write up!

I've got a 330 and desperately need to get autofolding mirrors before I go back to Uni and get them smashed off.

I'm presuming I need to buy the switch, get that fitted, and then will I need this module too? I have memory seats which I've read somewhere as being an advantage?!

Confused!
