Jellyfish
Hi... this might be a long winded story but here goes. I have a 330d and in the past the car would sometimes cut out just before the fuel light came on. If you topped up the tank it would start and run like normal. After some reading on the net it seems to be the fuel pump in the tank not pumping as the tank is a kidney bean shaped. The pump never got changed as we just kept the car with 1/2 tank and it never played up.... the car was parked up for a few years and was driven home and on the way home had just under the half a tank and went round a fast left bend and the car cut out.... the car was topped up with more fuel to 3/4 mark but the car doesn't start. So so far I remover the pump in the tank and found the mesh on the pick up blocked with a brown sticky film. I cleaned this with thinners and the pump works..... maybe the blocked pick up was my original fault of when the tank gets too low... I've fitted a new fuel filter under the car and the primer pump is working as I can feel the fuel line get hard to squeeze just as it goes into the high pressure pump. The car will turn over fast but wont fire.... my friend said that the fuel preasure in the rail might be low due to a leaking injector. I borrowed a leak off kit but to test the injectors the car needs to be running. I've had the car run on brake cleaner but stops straight away once the cleaner has been burnt. I know there are a few things that can allow the car to turn over but not start ie crank sensor, fuel rail sensor or the fuel pressure regulator.... I'm at a loss now as I dont know where to look next... and I've had a cheap bluetooth obd2 checker and there is no faults in the ecu.... or is the checker crap ??? Just in case I have ordered another under seat primer pump....
