duffman
was at a bmw meet in ireland on saturday and to my horror 80% of the cars there had sound systems in their boots. also any car with a sound system had either a stupid barry paint job or a stupid barry body kit. the 20% without sound systems were well modded and a credit to their owners. this got me thinking.............. are soundsystems a chav thing or what??? personally i'd never put a big base bin or amp into any car i'd ever own. i have no problem upgrading oem speakers and fitting cool stereos and dvd and the like but i just dont get the whole thump thump base bin in the boot. rant over
clubsport_chris
They sure can be. if the system is done properly then they can be very good and sound awesome.
Sam
I'm all for upgrading speakers, but keeping the look OEM. Base's in the boot isnt something I'd do, but dont mind it. Amps all over the place (visual) and speakers 5 to a door is over the top.
duffman
yep a tasty job is sometimes cool.................. but they are few and far between
D Double U
It definatly doesnt have to be...a single sub, a set of comps up front and a single amp (two depending how much of a stickler you want to be) is the perfect system. If done properly with good kit can make a HC system look standard in comparision both quality and volume wise...
mit
I voted yes, because I agree. I have what you might call a Bartholomew sound system myself (because it's good and as discreet as I can possibly get it)
Barry Poo
I personally wouldn't go for a mental install... chav tastic I would happily upgrade the speakers though as long as they fit in the original door cards etc has to look OEM. Not bothered at all about subs in the boot etc I hate the fact that some uneducated chavs think my car is modified cause of the factory aero body kit... huge installs would only make things worse tastfull all the way....each to their own though
Fletch
I voted no on the basis that no i dont think having a sound install is barry IE uprated stereo/dvd player or uprated door speakers and a sub and amp. That just means you like your music. doesnt everybody? Whats barry about it is the stupid oversized subs that are as big as 20" alloy with screens everywhere surrounded with plastic moulds or w/e So no i dont think a single or two small subs with an amp is barry but when u stock a full size TV in the boot yes that is... M3BIMMER
In my teenage years i used to have all the amps and speakers and used to love it. But now if i hear a car coming down the street with music on loud i think what a pratt. I am even aware when i have my music on that if i have the windows down i also turn down the music a little. This is because if i think everyone who blasts their music are pratts then thats how i must look to others if i did it. I like to turn up the old prodigy when i am in the car on my own with the windows up, but as for those who vibrate the shop windows before you even see the car then i think its a big no no. mit
I tried to use my Bartholomew sound system at a bbq a few weeks ago but it was pretty lame even with the roof down. Sitting in the car it was deafening but as soon as you got out it wasn't that loud! I was quite pleased with that

MattBMW
Large installs just add weight to your car and you end up burning more fuel........I used to have a boot install on my previous car with dual 1300w subs....thing is massive installs are not practical for every day life if you have a family.....so for me they can be OTT if not careful. Don't get me wrong some installs look very impressive and the amount of work that goes into them just it's easy to cross the line.
Will Lam
I voted yes, because I agree. I have what you might call a Bartholomew sound system myself (because it's good and as discreet as I can possibly get it) Tell me about discreet so hidden away under your blades etc But i think it wont class as Barry if you are using top quality equipments! Alpine, Pioneer etc. Best stereo i think i had own was the Alpine 7812rb Brilliant stereo wish i never sold it now!! Will

I have a Kenwood DNX8220BT head unit, Audison SRx5 amplifier and Rainbow Audio (BSW Stage 1) speakers/subwoofer! Any bass box in the boot is what I'd class as Barry, or any sort of plastic/perspex window with neon glowy lights showing off the amps and things... Haha yeah my mate has a nakimichi head unit that looks like it came out of a 1986 Ford Sierra but it's the nuts in terms of sound quality (combined with his mental hertz speakers and some other obscure make of amp). He has glowy lights and perspex in his boot though, so it's Barry
