staddly
Still no ideas on price then? Anything that has built in street fighter gets my vote! Not 100% accurate but if you bought one from Denmark it would cost you 9499 Kr (about £1150)
mit
This is the reply I got. Could be your chance to become UK main agent. I reckon there's definitely a market for these, and you could be quids in!

Atom is basically a really cut down CPU and you should really go for a Core 2 if you can stretch to it

goonas
Thats very interesting. I spoke to Alpine about a solution in my car and they said they were investigating doing one of these specifically for the e46, i.e. taking a current model and trying to half the bottom part of the caddy but no solution in line for at least 6 months as the bosses didn't think there was a market for it... looks like they have missed the boat. That unit looks pretty sleek.
///Marty
Yeah alpine already do a seperate screen and brains unit which gets round the heater cutting. Last time i checked though the user interface loooked like an old atari which is a shame cos their stuff sounds amazing.
goonas
I have it (the Alpine stuff) in my car, the display isn't the key thing for me, its not pretty but functional. But certainly behind the times of what can be done these days. Just a shame that they haven't had the foresight to make one specifically for the e46, especially considering that they made a lot of the Audio for the BMW as it is. mit
They probably had an agreement with BMW that they wouldn't make an aftermarket replacement, as that would interfere with the BMW H/K option and people would just buy the aftermarket one instead. I had the vehicle hub in my car for about a week and ripped it out for a double-din, and wrote a big long letter to Alpine who basically apologised and told me there wasn't enough market for them to offer a better solution. I don't care how good it sounded (only slightly better than my Kenwood double-din tbh), not being able to change the radio station without pressing the screen 3 times was a no-no for me (I didn't want the orb fitted anywhere as it's an eyesore and not exactly intuitive anyway). Also it had trouble changing the track display when the ipod changed tracks, and the bluetooth in the monitor would randomly mute the sound permanently (until you hung up and reconnected the phone call) even though the call remained connected. None of it fitted together well either. Damn shame, and damn waste of money (for me at least)! I have never been more disappointed with a product than I was with the Alpine vehicle hub (though this was partly because it was supposed to be my grand solution after failing with the Dension and Dice units. Anyway I could rant all day about this lol! Goonas seems to like his so I guess different strokes for different folks and all that!
