Speedy1984 Posted November 2, 2013 Report Share Posted November 2, 2013 Well I replaced the prop donut and centre bearing and still have (the thump)lol.The old man swears its the rear diff mount saying it opens up under loads with handbrake on,so bought one of these poly 2 part bushes from eBay.Had to make a bush removal tool today (bush is massive)so next wknd we will see if it helps. Well rear bush was not to bad but the front subframe bushes are fooked.Ended up takeing the subframe out and pressed every bush out and the front fell out lol(that bad)floor looks perfect.Cant understand why bmw designed the bushes to not completely touch the floor.Only two thirds of the rubber touches.Anyway cars on axles stands looking like a scrapper and just spent £240 on complete poly bush subframe kits.Word to the wise don't try this without the bmw bush tool,was even a pain with the correct kit.Still love getting my hands dirty.lee Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I can't remember now, been ages since I grovelled under mine to do the job God knows fella.Maybe they have the cut out and the small contact point for extra flex and comfort,it really is only is only two 5mm wide half moons that touch.Also with the poly bushes the complete bush contacts the floor so got to be way way more rigid and also added noise I would think.Looking forward to slapping it all in and testing it tbh lol. I took it to BMW who just looked at the bits they could see and didn't drop the sub-frame to check further and said will send a warranty claim as they get lots of money from BMW hq for the labor etc But it has been a month and every time i call they tell me that they are chasing but not heard anything back even bmw customer services say that as the warranty is between the dealer and BMW HQ they cannot help only speak to the dealer to get them to apply more pressure. If It is gone and BMW say no could i get away with just using the structural foam that the guys at Reddish and Mprove use as spending 2k for them to fit reinforcement plates to prevent further damage for a 320cd isn't worth it after all its no M3. Also should i be looking at replacing the diff carrier as it looks mighty rusty or is it surface rust and i can ignore it? Using the foam now is no good, that is only for if there is no crack, as OT slightly stops movement in the box section, or after reinforcement to add a bit more mass to the repair, doing it now is a waste of time or money. Keep on at them, if it's under warranty still, they should repair it, but from the state of the rust on the subframe, if I worked for bmw warranty and wanted to be a prick, id claim the car had been standing in a field because that is just about the worst condition subframe cradle ive seen over here. The only one on par with that was a guy who lived I'm Canada and it had obviously been eaten by snow. Keep bugging them. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yeah have to admit me and Triggerfish missed this basic check. Tbh i have no idea how its got that bad ive only owned the car a year guess its luck of the draw. Ive seen the pics they took on the camera and they have carefully avoided the cradle from being in them. Basically told me to consider replacing it should the repair go ahead. Any reasons you guys can think of why BMW would drag there heals other than not wanting to pay out a huge bill for a car that isnt really worth that much these days? The warrenty ends in June and i submitted it on the 21st of March as i just happened to look underneath out of curiosity. Rockers Posted January 15, 2015 Report Share Posted January 15, 2015 Looking under my e46 2002 330 it all looks fine, but is there anyway to strengthen up the mounts from the top ? Without dropping the subframe out ? I contacted a company about having the reinforcing metal bits welded on underneth and was quoted £1700 when I only paid £1100 for the car I'm not going todo that, even tho it's rust free and pretty clean, I'm yeovil sometset area, any locals able todo some welding for me ?
