When the obc is set to the mpg readng, simply hold in the button on the indicator

stalk and it will reset the reading and you'll see _ _ . _ on the display for a second.

My 323 manual is always averaging around 31-32mpg, with climate control on I get more when I go on a run, and I dont drive like a granddad either. Mine has been re-mapped though which improves fuel consumption.

It will change when your driving. What does it read once you've stopped?

I always re-set mine when I fill up. Although on my obc of the clubsport I can run current mpg and overall mpg readings so I have one for the current tank and one in my lifetime with the car.

I guess a lot will depend on auto v manual and what type of driving you do too. My wife's 318i only beat mine by .5 mpg if you compare the last tankful of each car!

The swingmeter/econometer is a pretty useless feature IMHO - it just relates to how hard your pressing the loud pedal!

The only true way of knowing your mpg is a brim-to-brim test.

I got a 318 steptronic auto, mine does about 24 - 25 mpg inside London city. . Reading that a 323 does 31 MPG, I should be doing more. . Having said that i can't remember what MPG I do on a motorway. .

Raven, the otherway to do a sense check of your MPG is fill up about 30 liters (that's 6 Gallons), re-set your meter. .

Check how many miles you do with 30L gas, divide by 6 which will give you MPG, if the answer is way out compared to the meter, then you got a faulty meter. .

we averages 31.3mpg on our 323Ci. This was all sorts of driving. It was also reset on a trip to south of france and back, and it was 31.7mpg when we got back.

I would start with a simple emissions test at a garage - any number of factors could be causing it:

Worn Spark Plugs

Exhaust/Manifold Leaks

Overfueling - though obviously this should be sorted by the ECU

Faulty 02 Sensor (or any of the other 26ish sensors in the engine!)

Incorrect Tyre Pressures
