Lee540
Hi all Would there be any reason why my drivers side front window no longer drops about an inch when I pull the door handle so I can open the door? Its been working perfectly since I got the car but this morning decided to no longer drop.. I didnt realise what was going on at first.. it worked to open the door, but isnt going down to shut the door now and I'm afraid of smashing the glass going to shut the door. The car is getting a big load of treats tomorrow.. new PDC, fogs, arch liners, horn.. so I want to fix this at the same time, if I can find whats wrong. Help much appreciated! Thanks Lee
mit
I am confused, what do you mean by 'it worked to open the door but isn't going down to shut the door" ?? When you open the door, the window drops by about 5mm. It stays dropped until you close it, at which point it raises again. So are you saying it doesn't drop after you open the door? If so that's odd. Do your interior lights come on? There are some switches on the door to tell the car the door is open, so could be that. If your lights do come on then the OBC knows the door is open so should be telling the window to open a bit. Does the window work when you use the electric window button? If not, could be a fuse, duff motor etc. You can do more troubleshooting in that direction. If the motor does work, then for now you can always just drop the window when you open/close the door if you're worried about smashing the glass, until you get the problems sorted. If it doesn't, that's really really weird, and I'd suggest disconnecting the battery for a bit to reset your OBC, or a diagnostic.
MADDOG
I have something similar... my window no longer drops when opening and the lights and lights on the obc dont come on.. Window works with switch... but the central locking is iffy on that side also so i think a full solenoid replacement is in order... hopefully that should sort it. mit
I think you should check the switch that tells the OBC your door is open too
simonlpearce
Guys this has nothing to do with switches and there is a simple re-set. Give me a few minutes and i will find it for you! Basically you just have to reset the memory of it. Its something like turn the ignition to position 2 drop the window all the way then lift it back up and hold the switch up for about 30 seconds even though the window is closed.... I will report back shortly.
mit
Oh, you reset the windows by turning the ignition to position 2, drop the window (press and hold the switch) and keep it down for 10 seconds after the window has fully dropped, then reverse it and raise the window (press and hold for 10 seconds). Remember to count your 10 seconds from zero, if you count from 1 you'll get to 10 and stop but that will be 9 seconds
simonlpearce
Thats it, the car cannot be running has to be in the "On" position. Plus i think you might need to do it for each side cant quite remember. I would start with the drivers side though and hopefully that will cure the problem. bobafixit
I have tried resetting my windows several times and it hasn't cured the problem :-( I know the door lock / catch assembly controls / tells the OBC that the door is open or closed. Does anyone know if its the same switch assembly that tells the OBC if the windows are closed, because obviously the windows only operate (step up or down) when the window is fully closed with the door shut. For example the windows do not step down if you have the window half way down, then open the door. This problem is driving me crazy, my cars only done 44k and is very well pampered. I don't want to have to take it to BMW unless they can assure me they can fix it, as I don't want to end up with a big labour bill and them just throwing expensive parts at it. Regards Bobafixit i have a similar problem too. When I go tot open the door the window won't drop and I have to pull at the door really hard to open it. But for some reason once I pull and get it open it drops and because when I close it it goes back up. When I open it from the inside it drops and opens perfect and shuts prefect too. The problem is only when opening from the outside. It is scary thinking it can shatter the glass... Did you ever fix it?? What was the problem?
