savvy Posted February 24, 2011 Report Share Posted February 24, 2011 (edited) Hi all, Though in condition, my convertible black roof was covered with cat hair and fungus green patches and I wasn’t in favor forking out for a new one so here's how i gave it that brand new look! DIY Disclaimer All DIY projects are purely "at your own risk". If you are at all uncomfortable or inexperienced working on vehicles, please reconsider doing the job yourself. It is very possible on any DIY to damage your car, void your factory warranty, disable a safety feature, create a hazardous condition, or harm or even kill yourself or others. Time: 20-30min Conditions: Daylight and dry What you'll need: 1) AutoGlym Roof Kit - Cheapest i found including delivery was amazon: link 2) Toilet Scrub Brush - Obviously not used! Got mine from Sainsbury’s for a couple quid, has a handle so made the job much easier. Yes the bristles are quite tough but hey gotta get the job done right?: link 3) Water hose and bucket - I do not own a pressure washer but i believe it would have come in handy! link Step 1 Hose down the roof making sure you soak every inch of the fabric Step 2 Open the lovely Autoglym packaging, yes that foam thing is meant to be a sponge, but we'll be using the scrub - none the less don’t discard it just yet. Using the scrub in one hand and the Fabric Convertible Hood Cleaner in other, spray generously and scrub in circular motions till you see the dirt rising out of the fabric. Do this over the whole hood dipping the scrub into the bucket of water to make more bubbles! DO NOT BE SHY OF SCRUBBING THOSE SEAMS! The whole hood should be white with green blotches.... Step 3 Hose down the hood washing away all the dirt and grime, as I don’t have a pressure washer i used the old thumb over the end trick. Frozen thumb alert!!! Step 4 Repeat step 2 using the scrub only, as you'll notice there will still be foam seeping from the material so you won’t need to use the Fabric Convertible Hood Cleaner again. Don't forget to continuously dip the scrub in the bucket.... The wetter the scrub the better the bub... Step 5 Repeat step 3 till there are no soap suds at all, if you find they just will not go away - repeat step 4 and 5 consecutively. Step 6 With the roof soaking wet, but clean as a whistle take out the Fabric Convertible Hood Protector and the crappy sponge. Now spray the roof generously, using the sponge to shield/protect bodywork and the windows. Should you get any seepage onto the body or windows just use a wet rag to wipe immediately. Leave overnight to dry, and hope it doesn’t rain. Step 7 Wake up to fantastic looking roof but one hell of a dirty bodywork... So what is step 7? Wash the car! Take note how the water droplets just roll off the roof as if it’s just been waxed - you did this!! muly Posted February 27, 2011 Report Share Posted February 27, 2011 Great diy,i used Autoglym Roof Kit on my cab a month ago, its great stuff and easy to use, only thing i did different was i waited until the roof was dry before putting the protector on, as its easier to see which area has been covered.
