Faradzz
so my brakes were on their way out and i decided to buy the MTEC mintex combo from MTEC website for around £250 quid. had them all installed by my local mechanic and followed the mintex bed in procedure, after 2 months of use. i find them to be useless My alloys now have a layer of brake dust every week that is THE HARDEST thing in the world to remove. ive had to remove each wheel and clean it with boiling water, alloy wheel cleaner and a lot of elbow grease Performance wise they are weird. the initial bite is soft but when more pressure is applied they seem to just come to a crashing halt. its like they have two settings,. "on" and "off". in day to day traffic they don't function very well. but when driving hard they do stop you faster but then they heat up alot! i drove from Manchester to Leeds (30 odd miles) at average motorway cruising speeds. Come off the motorway and drove home at moderate speeds nothing mental. stopping at lights and junctions maybe 12 times in total. got out of the car and i could feel the heat given off by the brakes and they were HOT! i dont know what to think about them pads i don't like them. MTEC discs were absolutely perfect for a while. i ordered dimpled and grooved. i wish i had ordered just plain standard. when hitting the brakes on the motorway at >55mph they "hiss" as the air gets trapped in the grooves. i got the discs with the black coating available on the MTEC site. there i no trace of the coating after 100 miles or so. that was a waste of money. in all i would give the combo 6/10 and will not buy again. just my two pence worth :-)
Daz 330 Cs
I've only ever heard bad things about Mintex pads in a 3 series. I removed a set from a mates 330 vert that squealed terribley. Fitted OEM and job done. Lots of others on here use other pads with good results, but ill always stick to OEM, mainly because my mate works at Sytner so gets me discount
momo
+1! Heard nothing but bad news on Mintex.. EBC Yellows with EBC grooved/dimples for me! I get the "hiss hiss hiss" when braking on the motorway too but its not so bad as they stop on a dime when I want them to!
PeterH
I'll throw a spanner in the works and say that the mintex pads are ok for me, they never squeak... perhaps you just need some good ol' copper grease?
Had0uken!
I stuck Ferodo pads on mine & they work perfectly, can't really tell the difference between the oems and the ferodo's and I've given them some beans

No amount of copper grease will eliminate squealing if the pads are crap.
PeterH
That is true, but just thought i'd say that mine don't squeak at all
pablo
I have these too, find them dead on bar the rear pads clacked a little when applied (pad ever so slightly too small I guess). performance wise been dead on though. dont think I got them off mtec tho, but were ebay specials. DJ Syxx
Haven't heard good reviews of Mintex pads. Got pagid's pads and Brembo discs on now they have bedded in they stop well and no squeeling noise either.
starkie7
put a set of mintex discs/pads on my old 328 - never again, poor stopping power, lots of dust and very high wear even on the discs. put brembo/textar on the front of my 330d and much happier. zimzimmer46
perhaps you just need some good ol' copper grease? You shoudn't be sticking copper grease on em anyway when i see ya next i'll shown u something
PeterH
I mean on the back of the pads lol! When i was refurbing my calipers i had to scrape off a load of it that had gone all hard and nasty...
Daz 330 Cs
You shoudn't be sticking copper grease on em anyway when i see ya next i'll shown u something No you shouldn't. Most new pads come with anti-squeal stuff already on them. OEM do anyways
Aidan316i
I was using Axxis pads before, got them from CA Automotive with some EBC Discs (330 spec ones) Gone to Redstuff now, both seem good enough Would recommend the EBC Discs defintly! Jasesapphy
I find performance friction pads and genuine BMW performance disks a good combo
Danw8986
No you shouldn't. Most new pads come with anti-squeal stuff already on them. OEM do anyways still good measure to put a lil grease on the ends and the back were the caliper touches the pad. dosent hurt and as its a one pot floating caliper there is a bit more movement and rubbing than other cars
