AA Breakdown Repair Cover

Recommended Posts

When I bought our 320d touring to tow with I rang the AA to make sure my existing policy would fully cover me if I was towing.

I knew I had basic breakdown cover and as it turned out I wouldn't have been covered so while on the phone upping the cover their sales guy offered me something called breakdown repair for £150 including upgrading my breakdown cover (it's like a warranty but for some reason they can't sell it as a warranty). I don't usually buy stuff like this but since the car had 135,000 miles on it and it was a new car to me, I thought I'd go for it for the first year just in case.

Anyway last month the starter motor started playing up clicking but not turning over. It was hit and miss for a while but yesterday it finally packed up. So I called the AA out he confirmed it as the starter motor and now my car is sat at my local garage awaiting a new one fitting at a cost to me of the £25 excess that the cover has...

While I was waiting for the patrol man I rang round for some price's and got £265 fitted!!!!

So when it's done I'll be £90 up and have free AA for a year :D . Thinking of newing the cover next year...

Yeah, it's pretty good cover that. I have it on mine. They only pay the first £500 of any claim if you immobilised but still peace of mind and worth the money. B)

I thought it was limited to 10 yrs old or 100k miles??? Seems not.

They've changed it now. It used to be that but now you just pay a bit more if your car has done over 100k miles. B)

I had a snotty letter from the RAC years ago because I used their breakdown cover about 3 times in a year. They said I'd have to pay more per year.

I guess thats the pitfall of owning a Renault lol.

Went Japanese after that then German now. Last time I used them was to fish the MR2 out of a bush I'd spun into
