RickyZ
First time I've seen someone recommend to someone else a new build. Especially someone that's not actually lived in one yet! I agree with shared ownership though. It's a good idea. It's not just on new biulds though Initial impressions seem good, lets just hope I dont eat my words True its not but is rare on second hand properties (well it is at least down here) lol

RickyZ
Cheers Rick , worth looking into the shared ownership schemes or something i think Totally dude, ones down here cheapest was 95000 for brand new ground floor one bed apartment plus you only had to buy minimum of 25% (more you earn the more you have to buy) so its not that expensive IMO

Theyre of a different culture to myself (not wanting to bring racism anywhere near this Forum) so i don't know if thats the norm? Certainly isn't to me though. I agree with shared ownership though. It's a good idea. It's not just on new biulds though I love my new build. I don't love the developers who are longing out the defects process but I can listen to BLARING trance music and can't hear it once I step outside the front door, I don't have worries of new roof/re-wiring/new plumbing etc. No creaks/rattles/etc Oh and shared ownership rocks. As long as you get decent neighbours, I've been bloody lucky, not sure everyone is as lucky! RickyZ and Blair

Thanks to nice big thick concrete floors and top of the range sound insulation, I can only ever hear the guy above when he scrapes a chair across the floor every now and then lol. Used to have w****r neighbours when I lived at my mums. Used to do my head in!

Ours (and a couple of others I know) have been the complete opposite. We moved in to a new build when we first moved out. Shoddy building work, very thin walls, plumbing and electric issues. Whole thing was hell. We stayed there 6 months until our lease ran out then moved in to one of my parents propertys. We probably just got unlucky, but damn was that experience bad enough to put me off new builds in the future.

Mikey
I've got a new build and can't fault it. Then again mine was built by a small local developer rather than the big guys so probably pay a bit more attention to detail.

You can have just as many problems with period properties. It's not been plan sailing AT ALL. Developers have been toss pots and I've had to take 6-7 days off work but I'm finally getting there!
