No. The thing is now it IS part of the test. Plus.. It's quite clearly illegal to just rig your car for the MOT and than make it unroadworthy afterwards. That's the point in the MOT. The part that makes HIDs cause a fail Oh and decats too, although I'm struggling to find that bit at the moment. I'm not disputing the legality, just failing to see the word must hidden in the MOT rules for the levellers and washers. I was saying that in the literature for passing a MOT it says your car MAY have auto-levelling and washers. It doesn't say needs to have/ must have/ shall have/ should have it only says the word may. meaning that if you dont have them thats fine! if you do have them, thats when it says the word MUST. they must work if they are fitted. The fact is that several MOT testers have been questioned including one on here and regardless of your interpretation of a manual which you have no training in, you still choose to argue the bit over the experience and training of the people in the know! It doesn't fecking matter if it says may or must, the mot testers that have been asked have said that the guidance they have been given is to give advisories for illegal HIDs until 31 Mar and then fail cars thereafter. That's good enough for me to err on the side of caution, rather than going in there armed with a bit of paper like some kind of barrack room lawyer! We're discussing the MOT and you'd like to think that if someone were coming from a point of bettered knowledge, they'd say so to backup their points. Just because someone has read a book on the law doesn't make them a lawyer, certainly not one I'd like to use to back me up in court! To be fair, there really is little point I discussing this until either the MOT guidelines become clearer and you accept that HIDs are illegal or I accept that they're not, or indeed an MOT tester (Steve, cough cough!) comes in here again and tells us the way it is! Put it this way, I'd be well pissed if mine failed on a dodgy self levelling sensor and then some random comes in after me with a bolt on HID kit without self levelling and they passed.
