Jay.
It's a blanket rule for everyone. If you're advertising for a fellow forum member, it gets deleted. As you know, the only way this site continues to run is from subscription money, that's why we have this rule. Otherwise I'm sure Sam would let anyone sell anything. If Das had a thread up advertising for a fellow forum member, apologies we didn't spot it. If Jay spots any other for sale threads that he thinks are against the forums selling rules, PLEASE click report and a mod will assess and take action on it. Well you explained it there - you should know me better than that gaz i wouldn't flout the rules for the sake of it, I saw the one posted up by beck & the fact sc7 actually commented in the thread thought it was taking the piss a bit. Chrish is a good mate of mine & I thought with all the stuff I do for this forum it would have been accepted. The fact I just had it deleted without no warning pm pissed me off more. Gaz
Well you explained it there - you should know me better than that gaz i wouldn't flout the rules for the sake of it, I do, and I know you wouldn't have done it purposefully if you realised it was against the rules. Your generosity to the forum (i.e. giving free shocks to Siffion) hasn't gone un noticed, don't worry. Chrish is a good mate of mine & I thought with all the stuff I do for this forum it would have been accepted. I understand that, but you need to understand we need to just have a blanket rule for everyone. If we start making exceptions for certain members then it'll come across as chosing favourites and there'll be no consistency to it. The fact I just had it deleted without no warning pm pissed me off more. It would have been nice to have a PM just to let you know why it was deleted, I agree. I think all 5 of us mods work 9-5 though so they may have deleted it then had to do something urgent at work. I'm sure they'll PM you once they see all this mess. B0B
You come across as a top bloke and great contributer to the site Jay, and yes a pm would have been the right thing to do. What I can't understand is why the forum member who owns the car, knows this is a good target audience, wants over 8k for the sale but is reluctant to spend a tenner in support of the site. Not looking for a s**tfest, just saying I how it can be seen to look. Gaz
mintimperial
See both sides and Jay is obviously a good bloke, but at the same time, it is only a tenner to subscribe. Then again don't know the ins and outs, so maybe theres a reason why he didn't I'm sure it's nowt personal though Jay! Jay.
Thanks mate, i know what your saying , but i just presumed reading the other thread on behalf of SC7 - it was the accepted thing to do. Chris said he'd be happy to pay the £10 subscription fee but felt as i am quite a well known member it might have been better advertising through myself as the car would look more genuine (just a thought.) I think the rules are pretty vague. So say chris hadn't posted any pics of his car - i could have just claimed him to be a 'mate' maybe i was too honest in saying he was a forum member, anyone could claim seeling on behalf of a mate when they are actually registered on here themselves. I think the rules should be either, it belongs to you or your not allowed to advertise at all. Or who ever done it could just not be so bloody petty. This is exactly the point i just raised when discussing this offline with all the other mods. £10 is hardly steep for unlimited for sale ads for a whole year to a direct target audience!!! Its like £40 just for a 2 week add on Auto Trader!
Jay.
I agree entirley with you Simon, however chrish trusted me to sell it on his behalf & the stuff i've sent on here for free & the time i've spent replying to pm's on this forum with people asking my advice, which i love doing by the way so don't stop! I feel i've been treated unfairly. he didn't realise there would be so petty to go round deleting for sale threads by established members who've been on here over four f**king years. I feel it is very personal tbh. Edited April 4, 2012 by Jay-
simonlpearce
Ok so lets bring an end to this. Jay - I agree and all the other mods im sure also agree that it could have been handled better, via means of a PM with an explanation. Point heard and understood. Everyone else - If you are unsure about ANY rules, be it selling or signature size or something else, please contact a mod before hand to get it cleared. Dont be surprised if a thread gets deleted without a response. We do try to explain but if were just popping in and out whilst doing our other daily duties it is possible a PM or two may get missed. Mikey
Jay, it is not personal at all. The same would've happened to any other member. Granted sometimes things are missed by the moderating team but as stated by Gaz earlier, we all have day jobs to do also. I think if it is becoming such an issue with members then we could revert back to the old rules of having all for sale ads approved, that way it means a member of the moderating team looks at the ads before their advertised but we wanted to get away from that as it held up the process. I think we try our best to be fair but we have to treat everyone the same if there is a breach of rules.
Jay.
Right Si, well i tihnk it would only be fair if any other for sale threads which arent on behalf of themselves personally should be deleted- that's the only logical approach here don't you think? Then tomorrow we have a non subby messaging us saying "please let me just sell this one thing, look at all the diy guides I've done". Then we'll have someone else saying "I've subscribed 4 years in a row, just let me off this once" and so on and so forth. We either have to have one rule for all, or no rules at all. El Turko
Apologies, it was me that posted for SC7! Didnt realise I was in the wrong Can of worms... Sorry! The following is just my opinion, but cars should/could be exempt from the for sale rules. I can understand rules for protecting people/members to not get ripped off for normal for sale items. But a car is something you go visit, view and collect in person. Unless you're saying you dont want people joining just to advertise their car?? But then, newbies only join because they've either bought an e46, or are looking for one. I can only see a positive in having an e46 website with a nice selection of e46's on the side for sale. Just my opinion though.
Jay.
No but that means someone must have reported my thread if someone saw that and not the m3 one hence why i feel victimised. I'm sure that person has read this thread but doesn't have the balls to say who they are.
Keith
Oh dear, I can see some of what I raised yesterday has helped make this a bit ugly. Sorry for that. Way I see it is simple - the rules have to be black and white, so that both mods and members know where they stand - no grey area - so in that respect, the ad which was in breach should be deleted. Hell, I've added so many helpful threads here over the years about suspension DIYs, Bush change DIYs, leather treatments, brakes etc etc etc and I just have to swallow the fact I can't post on here as I'm not a member anymore. I can completely understand your frustration though Jay, and agree perhaps a PM to an active and generous member such as yourself would have been nice. However, mods need to do their job and we need to support them and the rules they set out. Edited April 4, 2012 by Keith
Jay.
Keith if the rules were black and white, i wouldn't have posted it - plain and simple. I agree the mods do a fantastic job and it wasn't a mod who deleted the thread, i've asked Sam for some clarification around the 'for sale' forum thus clearing up any future issues like this. I have listed countless items & never had one of them deleted hence me carrying on regardless.
