Interesting Mod Im Giving A Go?

Recommended Posts

Going to add a 330 intake manifold and 330 throttle body to my 325. I wouldnt usually advise it as from what ive read the power gains arnt great but it does change the torque curve to give more lower down in the rpm. This is something needed on my supercharger setup. Im also haveing issues with my mixture being to rich from oversized injectors. im hopeing gaining a reduction pulley and the 330 parts will solve this issue and give some good bhp gains allowing the injectors to give there full potential.

has anyone else attempted changeing there 325 to the 330 or found the areas where bmw de-tuned the 325?

I don't think BMW really de-tuned the 325, unless you consider it a de-tuned 330 by having a smaller capacity engine. Though it would be awesome if all that was needed ot make it a 330 was a new crankshaft lol :)

Good luck, some before/after tests would be cool!

have you had your map done yet mate and it would be a cool mod to do although i dont know if the 330 uses larger intake runners if so wouldnt that give a higher power but a reduction in low end power

Have you had this mapped properly yet?

yep got the map uploaded from aa but due to the larder injectors shes running very ritch. backfireing a bit and smelly. Also think this is realy effecting performance. I think im just under 300bhp and if im honest not satisfied with the results. im only getting about 6 psi at 6500rpm when ready to change gear so not utilising booste at all. the smaller pulley im hopeing will help but need to be carefull at higer rpm as could be hitting 10psi than the wanted 8psi. Last issues are with my dump valve, going to get a turbosmart so atleast there adjustable to the correct psi.

main thing is i need a dyno and mixture test. was happy with her being pretty much the same if not quiker than my dads sl500 0-85

You've not had it mapped then, you've had a file from someone else by the sounds of it, your going to car damage if you don't get it mapped properly.

yeh a file with the correct map for the kit. I hade to install it so if something did go wrong i was going to be covered by active autowerke. im guessing your talking about doing a live map right? if so do you know where does this?

autosri- the map comes with the kit mate its there softwhere to enable your car to run safely with there kit. Problem is im now after more pwer as there expected gains arnt there yet. a live map is needed but not sure where facilitates this as all mapping seems generic??

The fact you say "but due to the larger injectors...." Really doesn't inspire me. You don't understand what 'mapped' means. You have Bern sent a data file from USA. And its not right as it doesnt cater for the injectors u have fitted in the car.

Try someone like evolve or see who did blairs v8

If it was a correct map for your mods why did you change the injectors also why isn't your car making the boost it's expected too

didnt change the injectors they came with the kit, but i baught the kit second hand but new yet to be installed and for some reason it had larger injectors than specified on the kit parts list. im not sure about why its not makeing expected boost but its something im trying to find out---''mechanic is trying to figuer out''

Awaits the my car has gone bang thread!

why would it be going bang... its not gaining over 6psi and is running ritch??

ive never stated im not going to map it after all the mods are fitted and expected psi has been found.

my question to you however was where does live maps??

What happens if you use your stock injectors just until you have collected all your mods

If its over fueling a lot you could end up washing the bores and contaminating the oil which is not good

was more worried about it running lean if i did that.... the injectors have been a nightmare mate, tried getting active to part ex the correct ones. then tried buying the right ones off them which came to near £600 which i couldnt justify as mine wouldnt sell. Tried getting the part number and finding the correct ones myself but active are very protective about such things. So i decided well if i wanted to increase the performance further in the future i would have to up the injectors anyway... so i kept them.

Main issue about blowing the engine is the booste... anything over about 8 psi and im gunna need a metal head gasket n new bolts and some other bits and bobs to reinforce things to cope.

why not treat yourself to a aem wideband AFR gauge only around 100 quid and you will know what your fueling instead of just guessing then fit your stock 325 injectors in and see what its at aslong as your at 12-12.5:1ish on boost your okay then collect all your mods then fit all your mods take it to evolve or someone to map properly for you then if your still leaning out fit the bigger injectors while on the rolling road

within reason if you keep it at part throttle the ecu will try and keep the AFR at 14.7:1 using the stock 02 sensors

Yup, live mapis the only real way. Loads of places do it, though it will be a day on the rollers probably.

Be much better when done!

What psi is the charger set to run at? And what size injectors are they?

i see you have stepped up to the m3 chris, veryyy nicee.

set to run at 8psi and the injectors are 36lb 450cc i think.

im from shropshire and dont know anywhere near which facilitates live mapping, think birmingham must have a couple places?
