Trojan From E46Zone

Recommended Posts

got into trouble today at work. The IT guys came to visit me to sort out a trojan that had installed itself onto my computer as I'd got infected by the E46zone site when it all went squiffy a week or so ago.

They had been good and unblocked the site so that I could read it when having a tea break, but they have blocked it again now and were not happy :( (not that IT people ever seem to be!)

Presume I have it on my personal laptop too now .....

yeah - it went something like that !! (and I totally understand) I thought blocking the site afterwards was a bit harsh though :(

i very much doubt the site has placed a trojan on your computer as the site would had to have been hijacked to do this. I would suspect it's something a little more tame, such as a cookie.

Nope buddy far from the mark I had the grief at work with my laptop it was totally fecked up a malicious java script ran a blackhole virus which started to delete my icons/files. The lads in IT spent two days repairing they said it could have screwed the entire business up. Good thing I'm good friends with the crew and leaving in a few weeks so pretty lucky really. I don't browse the site on my pc anymore only iPhone viewing for me at the moment.

Surely the network pcs at work should be kitted with antivirus software to prevent this?

I can honestly say using avast I have not had a proper virus for over 8 years, the worst websites without a doubt are fake keygen serial websites as you download the files out of choice.

I bought a new laptop that came with mcaffee pro and got a virus in one week that almost led to me wiping the HDD! I downloaded a serial generator for an old piece of software scanned the fle and it came up clean! When I did the same with avast it showed up infected.

it was hijacked. For a while it was redirecting to an odd US based holding page. Thats when all the odd stuff started :(

I don't confess to understand the finer details of it all but Im sticking with the apple platform for the moment until that goes AWOL :D

I think the cookie reference is relevant as the first I knew I had issues was when the screen went blanks and tabs came up deleting all my desktop icons. Then It said I have virus/adware and wanted a subscription to fix the issue that's when I went help IT! Just know it was a complete ball ache as I had s**t loads of work on at the time. Ive still lost a few icons but hey at least it works now. :D

Viruses make me laugh. I'm still yet to run any kind of AV on my PCs and still have never been 'infected', if you understand how to use the internet you will never get a virus. Nothing can be automatically downloaded or installed without you confirming to do so.

Pops off to locate Jorge's PC and steal his bank details to order a new telly....

I guess you have never downloaded anything then? Or installed something you have downloaded?

Your PC is probably not quite as secure as you think it is, especially if you are running any software manufactured by Micro$oft, or Java, or Adobe, or (insert software manufacturer that is always updating their product here!)

That makes me laugh. You know a lot of virus's (funnily enough) don't want to announce themselves. That is what the AV is for. So, you saying I have no AV and never had a virus sounds about right. Who knows how many backdoors you have open and data loggers on your computer silently running...

As for the site, I have no issues with it on any computer. There is no spurious code running. Its possible you were infected before and never got rid of it 100%.

I have no issues with the site, I've just run Malware Bytes for a test, 'update database 231 days out of date', 3 objects found all of which cookies from IE.

I keep on top of keeping my computer secure, don't worry.Viruses cannot just run on a pc, you have to allow them too. Whether they trick you into clicking them or not. You still need to give the "permission". Opening a website that says you have 1million viruses found wont give you the problem, clicking "help me/remove" is what does it.

i thought nasty code could be present in just a pixel of a webpage and simply by navigating to it you have given all the permission that is needed for it to do its worst. I use a script stopper to at least make me aware and give me the chance to ok anything that wants to run on any page.

You don't necessarily need "to give the permission". There are hundreds of 'holes' in most OSs that can be exploited to run malicious code and you would never even notice, even if you were working on the PC at the time. See that ad playing a neat little video at the top of your webpage? It will be executing a Java/Flash/ActiveX script all of which make your PC vulnerable. Why do you think M$ constantly update Windows and IE? It's to plug potential vulnerabilities in their code which can be exploited without the need to install anything

MalWareBytes is good but is far from a catch all. The term AntiVirus is still used to name these products but they go far beyond that.

But if you feel safe, that's your call

thats what i thought, and is exactly why i use a script stopper. i have to manually select that script and allow it before it runs. I'm still amazed how many 'other' scripts run webpages that are nothing to do with your intended browsing experience.

In a rare twist of events I 100% agree with Jorge on this one.
