marc l
Wow those brakes are massive! Really nice mod I'd love to fit big calipers. It would all be for show on a 318 lol

Cannockwolf
do you think eventually i should be looking at a lsd? like a quaife? or will it be a bit over the top for me? just thinking it may help with the supercharger Edited May 18, 2013 by Cannockwolf
Jay.
As you say, with the tyres you don't drive it to it's extremities also with you saying your more about the looks, you can't see a LSD so it would be a bit pointless IMO!
Cannockwolf
this is what i was wondering, is it all about cornering? not getting off the mark quick?
Jay.
Just make it better to drift & indeed cornering will be better as will off the line grip
Cannockwolf
i thought the quaife was for grip not drifting, getting more power down on the tarmac, please bare in mind i know f**k all, i have to research everything
Cannockwolf
when looking here and on the interweb its comments like this that got me thinking it would be worthwhile FWIW, my bro has a Quaife fitted on his Limited 130i - it has transformed the car. Traction is incredible in a straight line - next to no interference when the traction control is on (not that it's usually on ), compared to it always flashing on hard acceleration before. It easily knocks 0.3-0.5 of a second off the 0-62 time; thats is not an exaggeration. The car is sublime for attacking corners too. With the standard open diff, you feel one wheel slipping and then the car 'snaps' as the second wheel loses traction... When giving it beans around a corner, this can bite unexpectedly. The Quaife is incredibly progressive - you can feel it stepping out and this just carries on in a controlled, predictable manner without any nasty bite. It actually makes me hate my diff. I can't wait to get one. That is the only big mod I'm desperate for. I understand the logic behind getting suspension and brakes sorted first - perhaps in a stanard model, but IMO the standard Sport suspension (and certainly the M Suspension II of the clubsport) is adequate, as are the brakes - we're not setting lap times here; For me, I'm just after more predictability and fun around corners. Not to mention increased straight-line traction... Who wouldn't want that? You could spend £2000+ on an exhaust system, induction kit, coilovers, etc etc, but pound for pound, £1300 fitted for a Quaife is a single mod that is going to give you faster acceleration and improve your cornering handling massively. Fact. Makes £1300 sound very reasonable no? And whats more, for piece of mind they come with a lifetime guarantee - the construction is different to that of the M3 one as their is no weak internal clutch - its all mechanical... I can't wait to get a Quaife and I'd urge anyone who is thinking of one to call up Kevin Bird (Bird's Auto) and ask him about one... After speaking to him you'll know you want one. And if you live local, go down and see him for a spin in their 335i demo car, fitted with you know what... Don't believe me? READ THIS In drag-race style, straight-line acceleration runs, this results in a close to ideal 50/50 power split to both drive wheels, resulting in essentially twice the grip of an ordinary differential. Cannockwolf
Next up - get rid of the Coopers and get some sticky tyres on! Looks very nice, I'm going to ask though and please don't take offence, if you are running coopers and you don't push them near the limit why do you feel the need for big brakes (even with the sc), Ps. "Cooper" tyres ? Just out of curiosity have you ever used Cooper tyres? Not saying they're the best ever but i had eagle f1's on a few years ago and don't see how they're that much better, I've gone round Islands hard in these and they've never let me down and I'm very impressed with them in the wet, but please take in to consideration I don't track the car or drive like a mental person Edited May 19, 2013 by Cannockwolf
Guest Gazb
Coopers are oe on a lot of American muscle stuff and we sell loads at work through various American car magazines they ain't as bad as some might think and cooper own Avon !!!! As for the diff with the brakes and planned supercharger it would be a worthwhile investment and they do make a drastic difference to how a car performs and handles well worth the money IMO Cannockwolf
bry1990
I'd think if you are pushing bhp figures close to a M3 it would be a worthwhile consideration to get a LSD. Something I think our cars would massively benefit from when getting pushed hard. Perhaps you could compare your car and an E46 M3 once the supercharger is fitted and see of there is a noticeable difference with off the line traction.? Guest Gazb
If it was partworn though dude it could of been really old and rock hard that's what we find if people come to us if they have bought partworns, and complaining there car is spinning or pulling sometimes they pre date that age of some of the cars and they are 10+ year old But don't get me wrong I ain't saying there like a Michelin or Goodyear/Dunlop but they are better than cheap budgets like sunew/fullrun etc etc Edited May 19, 2013 by Gazb thatnoise
Cannockwolf
I have actually had a cooper, I went through a stage of putting any tyres i could get part worn on the rear I wasn't impressed tbh i presume you got two rears not just one im not trying to stick up for them, so far they meet my needs, that may change when i go sc'd, the only reason i asked if you had tried them is i tend to only listen to people who have done what they are recommending there are too many that give advice and never have actually tried what they are advising Blair
