shafz
looking good bro, xenons look top ....thought about changing to a newer steering wheel?
Nimraynn
I've got a newer steering wheel sat in my bedroom at the moment but can't get a straight up answer about the airbag. I've recently made a decision though that I'll be upgrading to a newer E46, so I probably won't bother fitting this wheel and just sell it on. The next few mods I planned for this are the MSport bodykit, seats, the newer steering wheel, etc, to bring it from SE spec to MSport spec... but I've had a think and done some maths and for the money I'd spend doing that, I could buy a decent pre-facelift 330Ci MSport and transfer the mods I've done to this over. Wheels, stereo, xenons, rear lights, etc can all go over. Suspension I'd buy new and start from scratch... So I've decided that I'll do this instead of pumping more mods into this one. Just need to start saving the money to do it shafz
beemer_boy
I have often thought about getting the 330ci but so far touch wood my cars not given me much hassle so i then get put off the idea, i also really like the bmw E88 so do i get a 330 or wait then get a E88? Nimraynn
So there are a few bits and pieces that I'd need to do bodywork wise before I could sell it for a decent price, plus they'd annoy me anyway so I'd want to get them done to please myself. With that in mind, the money I'd spend doing those bits, not really worth upgrading so soon... so I've scrapped that idea and decided to keep going with this one for at least a bit longer... A while ago, I cut to shape (roughly) an MDF floor for the boot so I could securely bolt down the sub and amp. Don't actually have any before pics, but I did that something like two months ago. Only today did I get round to trimming it to make it presentable and finish off the boot build. Used some grey faux-suede fabric I got from eBay. Decent quality stuff, a bit better quality than the black faux-suede from Dunelm that I trimmed my last car's boot with. Used some spray adhesive glue and lots of help from the mother. She pretty much did the trimming if I'm honest, but only because I asked her to give me some starting tips so I could do it, and she pretty much took over and did the whole thing Here is the finished article: Last weekend, I also took a road trip down to see JimmyJames and picked up a nice M3 interior. With his help, we managed to wedge nearly all of it on the back seat One front fitted and photo to show comparison Both fitted in the front Fitted those on the same day I picked them up. Didn't have time to fit the rear seats though, so I did that yesterday. Stripped out the full rear interior And fitted all the M3 bits Unfortuantely as you can see, I don't have the rear speakers that are mounted in the rear cards, so need to find something to plug those with The painted trims on the door cards were a bit worse for wear after it looks like they've been painted and its all peeling, so I swapped the original trims from my door cards to the M3 ones, but swapped the nappa leather pads off the M3 cards so it all matched. I haven't yet swapped the front door cards, as the next thing I'm buying on pay day will be at least a set of new front speakers. If I'm buying those, I'll need to take the door card off anyway to fit them, so I may as well just wait until I do that before I swap the cards. Too much effort otherwise Lastly, the CSLs are back. Had fun doing this as the tyres were pretty much shot when I took them off for winter... so before I fitted them, I treated them to a full set of Falken FK-453's all round. When I went to fit them back on the car though, the rears rubbed quite badly... For now, I've jacked up the rear suspension enough to clear without any rubbing, but will eventually look at getting the arches rolled to prevent it. I'll probably get it done by my mates bodyshop when it goes in for some more work Rebel, JimmyJames and shafz

Nimraynn
No worries if you don't. I'd never really paid much attention to the rears so didn't even know they did or didn't have anything there. It was only when I was fitting them I was like "Oh there's a hole here, let me get the bit off my old card... hang on, there's nothing there, what?" I'm sure I'll find something to plug the holes with
Nimraynn
Not such a happy update today. Was driving to work this morning and a guy in another E46 pulled out on me. Was driving along a 40mph road approaching a set of traffic lights. I was turning right at the lights and it splits into two lanes. There was a bit of traffic in the left hand lane, so I'd slowed down a little bit and pulled into the right hand lane. A guy the pulled out of a side turning on the left and pulled straight across in front of me without looking. According to him, it was his right of way as he got flashed out of the junction by a van driver in the left lane... So far, not a single person I've told that to hasn't laughed. So this is the damage to my car: Insurance have put me through to a bodyshop in Tunbridge Wells who I'm going to see on Monday afternoon to get a quote to repair. I've also spoken to my mate who works at a bodyshop in Dartford who repaired my wings back in November. Going to see them tomorrow for a quote which I plan to hand to the insurance company. It looks pretty much to just be bodywork. It still drives OK, bar big dips in the road the wheel might rub slightly. It doesn't really feel any different at all... but the wing is bent, the bumper appears to be dented although I'm struggling to work that out... It's definitely scuffed up and will need some smoothing out, but I think it's dented. Bonnet also has a slight scuff on it and the indicator has become dislodged. It appears the mounting bracket broke on the back. Didn't know it was loose until I was driving home tonight and it fell out on the A2. Got out and pushed it back in to at least get home and look to secure it properly... it then fell out again as I was driving up the exit slip of the M2... stopped as soon as I could, got out and there was just a bulb hanging there... so it's actually fallen off now

Stevej330
At least it's not that much damage by the look of it. Hopefully it won't cost much to get it repaired and looking at it's best again. Btw what is the body in dartford called mate if yu rate it might want some parts doing to my car?! Nimraynn
Unfortunately his was a lot less than mine. A bit of a scrape and dent on the wing. Although I suspect I may have hit his wheel so may be some underlying damage on his. Place is called Dartford Panel and Paint. Up by Darent Valley Hospital. A mate works there which is how I know them. Done work on a few mates cars with good results. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

RickyZ
Well if the other guy uses him then you have your version of events, either way he joined a main road from a side road dangerously so should be open and shut him at fault
Nimraynn
Not a lot has happened regarding liability as of yet, but the car has been into PK Motors in Tunbridge Wells for repairs and I got it back on Wednesday night. I've got to say I'm impressed, it's pretty much like new! The guy on the desk who did the hand over didn't seem to know exactly what had been done as he said it was definitely a new indicator unit, but if it had been down for repair, it would've been repaired. The front bumper is definitely original as it still has some of the original marks and flaking paint that aren't near the damage... although the fog light surround I snapped back in winter on the drivers side has been replaced which is a result I think the wing is new though as it is absolutely mint. Only time will tell if the rust comes back again But overall, I'm very happy I did have a problem after a few miles though. Drove through the retail/industrial park at no more than 20-30mph... drove round a few roads around same sort of speed and didn't have any problems... then hit the A228 and went for a bit of a blast and when I hit the brakes for a roundabout in the 50mph stretch, I noticed as I came to a stop that the front passenger side wheel was smoking. Smoking enough to be visible from the drivers seat. So I stopped in a layby on the other side of the roundabout, called a mate who has just been doing a mechanics course in college and he suggested a few things and asked if the wheel was hot. The passenger side wheel was at least twice as hot as the drivers side on. Called out the AA and let it cool down... but after 1hr 30mins, they finally called me to say they'll be another 45 minutes. By this point, I was very bored, pissed off and the wheel and brakes had pretty much cooled down. I told them to stick it and risked driving it home... and interestingly, it has been fine ever since. I've done at least 250 miles since and it's perfectly fine.. so hopefully it was just something on the disc that burnt off under heavy braking rather than any actual mechanical failure. Keeping an eye on it, but it seems to be OK. One thing I did notice that I wasn't 100% happy with was the fact I had silver indicator bulbs fitted up front... As above, when I was driving home the night I had the crash, the whole unit fell out and left the bulb dangling by the cable. So that I could get it to the bodyshop legally, I whacked on one of the original clear indicators as a temporary measure, but I'd left the silver bulb in it. When I got it back, they'd kindly replaced it with a smoked DEPO unit like I had before, but it had an orange bulb in it... Not the end of the world, but it was very noticable to me. The guy didn't know what they'd done with the old clear unit. I found it in the boot the next day though with my silver bulb still in it so I swapped that back I've been meaning to get hold of one since my Astra got written off, but never got round to it... but this crash has triggered the purchase of a dash cam as well. I did a little bit of research and was a bit wary of the cheap ones, but a lot of people seem to rate one called the G1W. It only cost £27 plus another £13 for a Samsung 32GB microSD card, but it's a reasonable size and comes with all the cables and mounts you need. Been playing with it while the E46 was still in the bodyshop and really impressed with it. Phil from Andrive said to me a few days after I'd already ordered it to be careful of the lens as they can get cloudy after being exposed to UV, so I'll keep an eye on it... but out the box, I'm pretty impressed with it. Although still using the 12v socket adapter, I've run the wiring neatly so it's hardly visible. I've pushed it behind the roof lining, behind the A-pillar trim, behind the dashboard trim, down the back of the stereo, down the back of the heater panel and poked it out underneath the heater panel. I don't have a relocation panel for the heater panel yet so there is a bit of a gap. So until I get a hardwire kit and a relocation panel, it'll do a nice neat way to run the cable. Today as well, I finally got to the bottom of my chinking rattling noise that I've had coming from the rear end for months. Probably nearly a year I've had this noise. I've just gotten used to it but it drives all my passengers up the wall Turns out it was the small metal plate thing that goes under the nut on the rear passenger side shock absorber top mount. The nut wasn't all the way down so there was a relatively small gap there, but it was enough to enable the plate to rattle and cause a metal on metal chinking noise whenever driving along an uneven road. Hasn't really caused any problems other than being irritating. I tried to tighten the nut on it, but the shock obviously keeps twisting with it. Tried a set of locking adjustable molegrips on the top of the shock to hold it but ended up just mashing the top of the shock For now, I've done a bodge of wedging a bit of rubber in between the nut and the plate to act like a washer. It's pretty much stopped the plate from moving now and has completely stopped the chinking noise. I want new coilovers anyway, so they've been moved up the priority list now Got a few other small jobs to do this weekend. I just can't remember what most of them are. Ripped out the CD changer this morning too as it's pretty redundant with the Andrive Edited May 17, 2014 by Nimraynn Rebel and TriggerFish
