Reaper
Hi all, Only thinking about doing this at the moment, but which is better, LED Angel eyes or CCFL? (Reliability, ease of fitting, quality, light output, light quality????) Cheers!

bachu
I put the CCFL ones on my car and They look wicked, but a friend of Mine put the LEDs ones in and they looked mega bright
DJ Syxx
Both easy to fit, LED are supposed to be more reliable. CCFL use inverters that can fail. Also you do get cold start issues but once warmed up are fine. Prefer CCFL as led are too bright.
Reaper
Hmmm, trouble is, if they're too bright, the effect kind of blurs doesn't it? What do you think look better?
Reaper
Anyone got any REAL photos showing the comparison? Not pics that have been "played" with to make a sale!?
James B
I got LED's fitted on mine and they are almost too bright really, although they do look good during the day, but at night with headlights on it all sort of blurs together from a distance
Trevor
I tried led's and didn't like them. Now have cheap ccfl's and they are spot on. Been ultra reliable as well, even through the severe weather.
Docz2K9
Trev , do you have the link to where you bought yours? Also do you have any light errors on the dash caused by the angel eyes & are they easy to install? Sorry for the 21 questions haha
Trevor
I got mine from Jay. He bought them from a Chinese seller on eBay. PM Jay and I'm sure he will sort you out the info you need. No errors, removed sidelight bulbs and plugged the Angel Eyes straight into the sidelight bulb holders.
Ferg
Mine look like this, look better/brighter in real life,,crisp sharpe ring and 100% white, couldn't be happier with em they look amazing at night and still easily visible in day light. Jim 320d
I have ccfl's fitted been in there for almost 3 years now never had any probs with them but after seeing a few friends with LEDs fitted am thinking of changing During the day LEDs are better but at night ccfl's win IMO
Jay.
I'd take a chance on the ccfl for the price! As Trev said I bought them with no issues
Rebel
IMHO CCFLs look better (more oem and moodier) although they are not without their reliability issues. SSDD Motorsport do both CCFLs and LEDs (Umnitza Orion's with either bright white or golden oem type glow). Were the original BMW angels CCFL or LED? Mengwalton
I got some ccfl ones there ace, cheap, bright as hell and so far reliable (touches wood) they were only 20quid, the led ones look s**te imho you can see the individual leds Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk
RickyZ
LEDs are superior in every way but cost more and are def brighter so depends what you want from them, plus LEDs come with kits for DRL and fade in/out

LEDs are superior in every way but cost more and are def brighter so depends what you want from them, plus LEDs come with kits for DRL and fade in/out So they're not superior in the cost department Mengwalton

Reaper
Interesting......looking like I'll go with CCFL then, if I do this mod. Mengwalton

I didn't want mega blurry bright! My ccfls are exactly what I wanted so to me they're superior Mengwalton
Reaper
My decision is made. CCFL they will be. One of my mates fitted some LED halos to his M3 today...........not impressed. A, you can see the yellow of the LEDs when switched off. B, (And this may be specific to CAN-bus or LIN-bus vehicles) they flicker every so often with the relay/control unit clicking when they flicker. This could be down to how he's fitted them, with the switched +ve to the sidelight harness, getting a duty cycle affecting the +ve supply to the control unit. Either way, don't like them. Just my oppinion though. Mengwalton
dooge
So they are just easy as plug and play? You dont have to remove the lights and split them to modify them? The only thing people did on the dub scene was split the lights by heating up the mastic between the lenses and back and spraying part of the surrounds black. It was called doing the joey mod and resulted in lots of broken headlights!
smiggy
Anyone done a "how to" on the CCFL mod?
Nimraynn
I did find a guide somewhere but can't remember where. I took some photos as I did it though so I'll knock one up if you have trouble It's not hard to do, alhtough mine's a pre-facelift so I don't know if there is any difference to the facelift. Am I right in saying the facelifts are sealed units? On the pre-facelift, it's just a case of removing the brow under the headlight, remove the indicator, undo a few clips to remove the lens, pull out the housing inside, clip the rings on, run the wires through the back, hook the ballasts up to your sidelights, reverse the process of taking them apart and you're done
