What Have You Done To Your Car Today? Volume 2

Recommended Posts

Today (well yesterday) I turned the m3 into a wedding car to take my now brother in law to his wedding.

The ribbons have left rub marks on the bonnet and pillars that won't come off so it's off to get machine polished again next Wednesday. Was worth it though, she looked lovely.

Stripped the boot rubber to find at least 7 wires needing work. A lot of solder/heat shrink and all warning lights have gone, I have my reverse light back and I managed to gain an extra reverse light that I have never had since owning the car, I was convinced it only had one - Happy Days! :)

Ordered the E30 a new throttle cable as the throttle is really stiff at the moment, and it makes rev matching/heel and toe quite hard as it requires too much force to operate. Hopefully this will solve it and I'm transformed to a driving god again...

Hey guys first update in a while again, give her a good clean after work tonight but haven't done anything recently. 219fca2c571338113efc7f8de663ed17.jpg

I did however go on my first work course yesterday to the BMW training academy and spent the day basking in the glory and soaking up the knowledge, just a shame I had to drive a company MINI down there aha

Prepared it for the MOT on Saturday. Airbag light reset, rear brake pipes sanded and painted (in need of replacement if the car passes/stays with me).

Fingers crossed!

Turned off the airbag light. Again.

Battery safety terminal this time, which has cropped up more than once. Given the error wouldn't go away, I found there was a tick box to say if the BST was installed or not. Unticking the box = no error :)

(I'm not a complete pikey, honestly)

MOT status: failed.

Failed on the hazzards flashing 'out of phase' (simple INPA change), and the airbag light being on (which was off when the test started). Advisories were for an oil leak on the turbo piping (usage is minimal), and a missing brake pad wear sensor (I tried to replace them with ones from ECP, but they supplied the wrong parts, again, and I just gave up). Not too bad for 235k! I've seen a very good lease deal on the M135i, so an MOT fail woulda been a great excuse...

Touring failed the mot last week on 2 x broken rear eibach springs and a rear outer rose bush

So I contacted the shop I bought the eibach pro kit from and explained that I had the springs 3 years and both the rears had snapped at the bottom,he said I can order some replacements at my expense and if I could take some photos with the springs in place and email him and they would(eibach)reimburse me fully for the springs,so happy with that result

So got the car back down the garage last night and my mate replaced the rear springs and rose bush and we did changed the oil and filter as it also needed doing

Car drives great again,no more creaking rear end?

I'm curious as to how the indicators work with your DRL set-up?

With lights in off/auto position: full beams at 50% brightness.

Side lights on: full beams at 50% brightness + sidelights/rear lights. Indicators on at ~50% brightness

Main beam: all lights on + indicators at 50% brightness.

When you indicate, the indicator on the other side stays on at half brightness. The indicator in the direction of travel just works as normal, until you're done indicating, at which point it goes back to 50% brightness.

Hopefully that makes sense?

Had a slack day at work yesterday so i painted my strut brace. It had a few scratches on and it was a dull satin black so i was going to paint it gloss black but in the end i thought it best to make the effort and paint it to match the bodywork.

I bought half a liter of carbonschwarz metallic 416 but only used about 100 mil so now im looking for other things i can paint

If you are looking for a cheap weighted gear knob heres one for £6 from ebay,I took a chance and managed to fit the selector guide on the top from my standard knob by sanding and double sided tape- see pictures as a construction guide.
