bungers
I want the BMW performance kit from ECSTuning but they've been on back order for months so I've been looking around. Thought about getting some 335 calipers to keep OEMish but stumbled across these: http://bit.ly/121BGNG I know the Wilwood calipers are nice & light but has anyone had any experience with them or indeed this kit/company? Blair
Why don't you make your own kit? That's what I did with my 4pot AP's CSL discs around £400 a pair BG Developments brackets £130 ish Brembo BIG Reds £300-
bungers
I was hoping you'd spot this Blair I've been looking around at different calipers, but I'm not sure which ones would a) fit are decent for the price. I've looked at Ferrari 4 pots, Aston Martin V8 4 pots, Audi RS 8 pots and various Porsche 4/6/8 pots. I've got Brembo 4 pots on my Alfa & had them on my Megane R26 and they are great brakes so would like a set of Brembo's if possible. Any recommendations? keano
That wildwood kit looks pretty good value - wouldn't want yellow stuff personally but otherwise... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bungers
No, me neither, I would pay the extra £50 & have the DS2500's. I don't do track work (it's a diesel cruiser after all!) but my brakes need refreshing and would like to upgrade them at the same time if possible. keano
Quick search: these any good for you? http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=160996327274&index=0&nav=SEARCH&nid=86544934661 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bungers
Deffo! I've enquired about that kit in the recent past too, not sure how hard it would be to make fit on a e46 though? They're £1466.26 from Cotswold but they're a special order from Germany & there aren't any available at the moment
keano
No idea on fitment but may mean you get them sooner from that eBay store?? Advertised price seems cheaper than what you mention but I presume there are taxes to add?? Looks a mean setup though if it works... Docz2K9
What about brembo calipers from the old fiat coupe or peugeot 406 coupe? i bought a set i spotted down the creakers for £40 last year & sold them on saxperience for £
R11CH
I use Wilwood callipers, discs and bells on my Civic track car, their a really good quality calliper, well priced, light weight, parts are readily available for little money and have a good selection of pads. Only thing that would concern me is most of their calipers don't have dust boots over the pistons so the seals are subject to a lot of crap, all very well for a track/ race car like myself who strips them down every month etc. but on a daily road car you could end up with problems. Another thing to consider is piston size, to big and you make the kit to front biased there for increase your stopping time and increase brake pedal travel, i would like to think the company selling that kit has worked all this out though but just something to consider. Do you track the car a lot ?? where do you feel the current brakes are letting you down ?? A decent pad, disc, fluid and brake line set up on a road car would be a much better idea and spend the rest of the money on other things.
L333JSA
Wouldnt touch Willwood unless I had a lighter car. Brembo or preferably AP Blair and R11CH
Smellynelly
Had ap racing front set up on an M5....was well worth the money.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk They work out @ ~£1500 including postage & import taxes, then I'll need a pair of rear discs & mounting brackets to suit - a fair whack but I'm sure they'd be worth it once fitted. What about brembo calipers from the old fiat coupe or peugeot 406 coupe? i bought a set i spotted down the creakers for £40 last year & sold them on saxperience for £170 I have thought about those or similar, would they be easy to fit though? As said earlier, it's my daily and won't be getting tracked anytime soon (although I'm not adverse to the idea) - the brakes are due to be replaced so thought it would be a good time to upgrade. I have heard similar things about the Wilwood calipers from a friend who has a Integrale - I want to fit & forget if possible. Wouldnt touch Willwood unless I had a lighter car. Brembo or preferably AP Fair enough Lee, the car's not exactly the lightest boat about! Had ap racing front set up on an M5....was well worth the money. I have kicked myself many a time for not buying Blair's old calipers/discs tbh, they were a cracking price!
Docz2K9
I have thought about those or similar, would they be easy to fit though? Not sure really mate , a guy from my old megane coupe forum was building a megane coupe turbo & had the brembos off a fiat coupe custom fitted, Not sure how hard it would be? bungers
Hmm, the 406 ones are a common upgrade over on the 205gti forum I'm a member of, although I've not seen them used on anything else, which would explain the cost difference versus porsche ones. The Fiat coupe ones might be a better bet as the 406 ones look a little small?
Docz2K9
Yeh the 406 ones are used on the saxo's & 106 gti's too . . Apparently the e38 7 series has brembo's too?? Maybe that'd be easier as its abit closer to home being under the bmw badge
bungers
Not seem a reference to the 7 series but I have seen setting about the 850csi's using 4 pot Brembos?

rubberduckzilla
I'd throw on a set of Porsche brakes personally... Set of calipers off a carrera 4 should set you back £500ish, then custom carriers about £200ish then just pads, discs and a set of braided lines... That lot added up could be spent on a new set of BMW performance kit though, is it worth for second hand calipers? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E38-7-Series-Brembo-Pair-Of-Front-Big-Break-Callipers-/251226680229?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3ABMW&hash=item3a7e46eba5 I like! im using oe sized 330 discs with aston db9 calipers and custom brackets and braided hoses. total cost was less than 500 . Now we're talking! Are they front or rear calipers? After a quick browse I can get a set of 4 pot rear Vanquish calipers for ~£250. How much were the brackets as I'd obviously have to get them made to fit? Probably going to go with either CSL discs or the standard BMW performance drilled items. Are radial calipers the ones to get (don't know a lot about brakes as you can probably tell!) Edited May 2, 2013 by bungers
Blair
Yes radial is the way forward and you need holes centres of 150mm or bigger.
