Are they any good

Recommended Posts

The diesel tuning boxes that are advertised near the top of the page for £150....like most, I've read a few horrors that all they do adjust fueling and can bugger things up and you're better with a remap....yes/no

Depends. If you're getting someone to map YOUR car, then yes.

By this I mean do a map for your needs, and then tailer it on your feedback.

These usually cost a little more, and sometimes referred to as a live map.

If you can afford it, go for it.

But if you're going to get a generic map for your car, which most ECU tuning places offer, then just get the box.

These generic maps are essentially the same thing, they're being created on a car a while ago, and just get shared around, and they aren't in any way unique to your car. Like the box.

But the generic maps are sometimes twice the price as the box.

So, if you're on a budget, tuning box.

If not, custom/live map.

In my opinion, of course.

Contact Colon from CNL mapping, he's reasonably priced and seems like a nice chap, also has good reviews on here & elsewhere.

Mine was originally done by him as I recently found out. It's since been mapped more aggressively by Mike from Motech.

I had a DTUK tuning box but had to sell it because money was tight, made a noticeable difference with no side effects when it was fitted and none now its taken off. I'd recommend it if you can't afford a live map

Probably. Drop them an email and ask.

When looking at remap sites, if you compare their remap gains tables with other sites, they'll almost be identical.

Kinda a giveaway imo.

They said it was a custom, but they write them the same models

It's just the fact that it's £300 vs about £150....and dont know how long I'll have the car, I'd like to keep it for a while but who knows what'll happen

I had a DTUK one on my vectra, I was 18 at the time so whacked it up to max, within 6 weeks it had snapped 2 engine mounts, ripped an engine mount off the chasis, ripped the gearbox off its mount, destroyed the turbo and then fcuked the diesel pump to finish off, it was £400 when I bought it, tbh most of the damage was the way I drove it, but the diesel pump and turbo weren't!
