e46 version error

Recommended Posts

Tried to diagnose a friends facelift 318 saloon tonight.

Managed to read, clear adn re-read the airbag module using INPA, the issue with that was that the airbag light was on and it turned out to be a passenger occupancy sensor fault so the light came straight back on.

The EML (picture of the engine) light was on so I accessed the engine (N42) through INPA and got the following error:

"versions do not match. Malfunction possible"

When I pressed ok, it would let me see the errors in the engine module but other than reading it wouldnt let me do anything so I couldnt clear the codes/light.

The only error it showed me was the pre cat lambda sensor being faulty.

Firstly will a faulty pre-cat lambda throw that light on?

Secondly what the deal with that error message? Is it a engine module (ecu) issue or is it the INPA needing a different version to fully access the car??

Thanks
