unixsmeden
Hi Forum, I can see there is posts and guide for auto to manual conversion, but is it the same/reverse procedure if you want to convert a manual to auto? I am mostly worried about wiring and electrical stuff. My car is a 2000 323i sedan. Any comments appreciated. /Mark
Greg320d
It'll be cheaper and easier to buy an auto mate. You'll need so much stuff, clocks, pedal box the list goes on!
momo
Manuals generally sell for more money so would make sense to part exchange and pocket the difference.. Unless the car has sentimental value it's a pointless exercise.. Ilferco and StuBeeDoo
mit
I disagree that manuals sell for more money; MoMo just doesn't like them. Nevertheless you are better off selling your manual and buying an auto for the reasons already stated above. momo
Greg320d
I'd agree with momo, there are far more auto's on the market and this would only help strengthen the price of manuals! Ilferco and momo
mit
Interesting... I wonder if all the manuals got written off. BMW sold more of them than autos in the UK, it's only more recently that Auto sales are starting to overtake manual...
momo
I remember when I bought mine the manual cars had on average a ~£1000 premium on them. There was only 2-3 cars in the country with a manual gearbox and the (sort of) spec I wanted. If I wanted Auto though there was more like 20 of them. Maybe BMW sold loads of manuals with smaller engines. Generally the larger engines were sold with Autos?
mit
I think what you're saying is that high spec manuals in mint condition command a premium. I suspect that high spec autos in mint condition also command a premium but there are probably more ragged high spec autos than manuals I have a low spec 330 manual, and it's rubbish
