Mike-
I use the bike most of the time so the car hasn't seen too much action in the past month or so, but I went to the shops in it last Saturday so I know all's well. Anyway, my stepdad took it to work today to give it a run, and I've just been in it now and the steering wheel and gearknob look like they've had another 50,000 miles put on them. Where there was minor wear at contact points it's gone matt black and really rough and generally feels awful. He said he didn't do anything unusual and his car has a leather wheel and is fine so it's not like he has sandpaper for hands, so I'm inclined to believe it not being his fault. He said he noticed at lunch that it seemed pretty rough so I guess it changed over the morning? As he was going to work he didn't have anything on his hands like a chemical that would've done it, but does anyone have any ideas? My first thought would be that its been stood for too long in the sun but since it was fine a couple of days ago that can't be right. Mike. BmEagle
Only thing that comes to mind would be something on his hands like sun block ? Try gliptone cleaner and conditioner.
Mike-
Said he had nothing on his hands! Weird one. Good excuse for a retrim I suppose. RizlaChris

Wash
I'd use leather cleaner/conditioner (like Gliptone mentioned above) before going for a re-trimmed wheel. You could also try something like magic eraser but be gentle with it.
