coding follow me home lights & welcome lights on key

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Been having great fun coding features on my car, but i want to be able to have welcome lights and follow me home lights on the ignition and key.

Now i know this is a topic that has probably already been covered and all i can seem to find is the follow me home on the ignition only works on the e39 but my question is?

Is there a way of (excuse my ignorance) of recoding the LCM with your own coding. i.e. you tell the LCM when the car ignition is cut to activate the lights or is it more that there is not the hardware capability?

Thanks

There's been a thread on this recently.

I've already got the follow me home feature on my car (from factory) where you pull the left stalk towards you when the keys are out of the ignition and the dipped beam stays on for 20 seconds.

But I would like the welcome lights feature where you press unlock and the dipped beam comes on.

Chimp posted a link on here to a module that does it.... It was £95 roughly.

Is it possible to do it through the LCM though?

Follow me home lights as Marc has described is standard on the E46 (all that I've owned have had it), dipped beam (xenon and halogen) with sidelights and rear number plate lights illuminate on this function

The fact there is a module you can buy enabling welcome on lights would suggest to me that the hardware in the LCM doesn't support this function otherwise people would just code it in, I'd like to hear otherwise as I'd love to have it.

I had considered (well still am) looking at doing it hardwired in the same way with angel eyes coming on with unlocking the car but tapping into the feed that works for the 'follow me home lights', not sure if it's possible but may well be.

Welcome lights aren't codeable on the e46, it was introduced on the e9x chassis. The FBC module can enable them, I had one on my 330cd. I believe the intravee can also enable them.

The LCM does not support this sort of feature. Follow-Me-Home lights (pulling the stalk towards you with the ignition off) are able to be coded to include different types of lights.

Welcome lights (lights when unlocking) is not supported on the E46 without additional hardware. I've wired my angel eye rings as welcome lights by wiring them up to the glovebox torch charger (which is on when you press unlock on the key, and off when you press lock). These then act as DRL's and welcome lights.

Looks cool, but what's it called, where can you buy it, how does it wire up, how much is it?

There's literally no information out there at all about it.

It is my production. Tips for install can be found on www.bmwlight.eu/install.html

You can buy it directly for me. I can send it in registered envelope to anywhere.

I am here for further questions.

Very interesting, thanks. What's the cost?

From the looks of things it's a K-BUS interceptor, reads data from the GM5 for locking and unlocking and transmits to the light switch to control the individual lights?
