Powerflow back box and pipe tips

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, anyone got a power flow exhaust back box and twin pipe on there 320d or 330d? I've had mines fitted for 7-8 months now and is already starting to rust on the edges. Anyone else had this issue and how to sort it out if you have. Cheers

On just about every other car forum I've been on, PowerFlow have been noted for poor quality of either materials or workmanship, or both. Personally, I'd leave PowerFlow to the lads who frequent retail park car parks out-of-hours in their Corsas and Clios. Your BMW deserves better quality parts!

PowerFlow stuff is cheap for a reason.

I think it depends on what Powerflow branch you head to. Like all franchises - the brand is only as good as those executing the job. Anyway, don't powerflow offer both mild and stainless steel? And don't they do a lifetime warranty?

I have powerflow on my e31 and its extremely barry.
Asbo worthy noise.

However the quality of the product seems great - mine has been fitted a year ago and still looks spotless and I rarely clean my car

It does have a lifetime warranty on the stainless steel yes but didn't expect it to start rusting this soon, I know it's a diesel and the soot and everything. I can't lie though I love the noise only kicks in when I'm going over 3k rpm exactly how I wanted it

I wouldn't use PowerFlow. They produce the most droney exhausts I've ever had fitted (2 different cars (Celica & DC5), 2 different style exhausts and 2 different places (Gateshead & Newcastle)) and they have NO clue as to how to rectify it. Utterly clueless monkeys.

I really think it does depend where you go. I went to one near Liverpool which I found through searching for powerflow, but when I got there it was a custom exhaust place (cybox I think), not just a tyre and 'oh we do exhausts as well' sort of place.. However, in future had I been getting something other than a back-box delete, I would go for aftermarket, although it is very expensive for the most part.

(I would reccomend this Cybox exhaust place however if you're in the liverpool area, seemed like a professional operation to me and I couldn't fault the work/price they did for me.)

Hi,

It absolutely depends which Powerflow franchise you go to. A few years ago, it was well reported and discussed over various forums with some franchises much much better than others.

Thankfully, one of the very best is now 400 yards from my house and six years ago when I had them do the backbox on my E39 530d Touring, the level of work and care was excellent. I have the Sport rear bumper and diffuser and the twin oval tailpipes I chose were too big to fit in the cutouts, so I was invited to take a look and stand to watch as the owner of the franchise, very carefully cut the diffuser to allow a good aesthetic and to fit around the tailpipes. It came out absolutely fantastically! I was also advised that if over the following 3-4 weeks once the box had a chance to 'soot up' internally, it sounded too loud or droney, to bring it back for adjustments at a very nominal rate - turns out I didn't need to!

I've only ever polished the tailpipes and I've not given the backbox a single second of thought over the last 6 years.

Around the same time, another dealer was getting bad reviews.

For the record, anyone near to Slough should go to see Naz at Thames Valley Auto's on Petersfield Avenue. Tell him I sent you along !

Cheers, Dennis!

I'm more interested in that cabin fibre piece in the rear bumper. Is that wrapped or something you can buy?

You mean the carbon fibre rear diffuser? You can buy them looking at around £200 lol but I got mines wrapped for a fraction of the price and looks all the same

bit of a thread revival here but just out of curiosity how much did you pay for your back box with twin pipes? I'm looking at getting one on my 320cd from their Blackburn branch, any feedback on it now you've had it on a few months would be great OP

As far as I can remember it was around the £200 mark, since I've had it fitted no problems I love the sound as it sounds like a normal diesel until you put your foot down and then it comes to life but even then after 4K rpm which is exactly what I wanted.

The tips do start to rust or just get dirty I think something like that as you can see in the pics basically lol but after a clean with a metal polisher come back up brand new, I'd recommend getting one fitted.

I had one fitted two years ago... No problem as long as you take it back each year for check up.. It's free and under warranty as long as you do this... Keep polishing the tip and your fine. As for people having the welding rust. It depends on who did the work as a lot are independent fitters. They use cheap weld to cut costs.. And they don't sound chavvy.. I wanted an original look and sound.. They can customise to your tastes so no dtm look bad boi exhausts you found on the old E30's unless you opt for that..
