AndyC_67
Hi there, just wanted some advice if poss on OBD fault scanners. I have a generic one which reads engine related codes but I want to be able to read a DSC fault code (I think it's the dsc pressure sensor). There seem to be alot of scanners out there which supposedly can read these codes. I have seen on eBay a couple (C110 & C310) which are around the 50 quid mark. I guess my question is has anyone used either of these, are they any good for reading these faults and would they be able to determine which of the 2 sensors is faulty? Car is 330ci convertible 2004 manual. Any advice appreciated! Thanks.
negev
If BMW Scanner would work for you I've got one for sale in the for sale section for a tenner collected. Don't know if it would give you the granularity on the DSC sensors but maybe someone else can confirm.

Like this one??? Would it also clear down any codes? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-DIS-V57-SSS-V32-TIS-V8-GT1-INPA-EDIABAS-DEALER-DIAGNOSTIC-CABLE-WITH-SOFWARE-/161943003985?hash=item25b48e2351:g:wFQAAOSw8cNUNG3z

Not only does it clear down codes, it gives you full english descriptions of any faults, when the fault occurred with various parameters, allows you to run diagnostic checks, read advanced live data from the engine, do module coding, cycle the abs when bleeding brakes etc etc etc. If you have a laptop and a BMW, it's a must have purchase. Example of my cars readout with glow plug errors and a previously dead battery attached. errors.pdf Edited January 22, 2016 by dontpannic

Yeah i had a look on the bcables site and ordered one yesterday anyway. Like you say it seems to be a very worthwhile investment, and since i have an airbag light and emissions light on it will no doubt pay for itself after the first use. negev
Is the forum broken? It's showing simonlpearce as the poster of the comment above this one, but he's a moderator with over 23,000 posts.. surely he knows about code readers? negev
Anyway - the airbag light is probably the passenger occupancy sensor. Bypass modules are available on ebay for a fiver or so. Chimp Choker

Nuts and bolts i can cope with but computers and what not i try to stay clear of. I expect the bypass sensor to do the trick, just need to be sure thats actually the problem. berts
Chimp Choker
Big advantage over inpa is that it will remove any shadow codes as well. Simple to use also Sent from my LG-H815
simonlpearce
Flip me, think my cable has only gone and turned up already!!! At least that is to say DPD have sent me a message to confirm a delivery to my neighbor, accompanied by a picture of their house, which is fairly good service for a courier. I don't have anything else on order so if it is the cable it was on record time as my order was placed at gone 4pm!
AndyC_67
Thanks everyone. I've purchased one of these cables from the link above. I will let you know how I on!
simonlpearce
So my cable has turned up. How do i go about installing the software? There are 2 DVDs labelled DVD1 and DVD2. I have loaded DVD1 into the drive and have the following App's, which one do i click? 7za Autorun Launcher Its all a bit of a mystery to me... Edit : Went with autorun as im impatient and it seems to be doing something. Will update shortly. Edited February 1, 2016 by simonlpearce
dontpannic
Autorun will bring up a box with loads of options. You then go ahead and click the button for the thing you want to install - Cable Drivers, then INPA.
