Vapour/smoke from oil filler cap

Recommended Posts

Noticed this very little amount of smoke/vapour coming out of the oil filler when I removed the cap. The reason was I noticed a smell of oil in the cabin, from the vents. A few searches later and it looks like like a possible gasket failure on the valve cover or possibly the rocker cover?

Any way my question is could the leak coming out of the oil filler neck be due to a blocked breather pipe, and if so where?

I have a 2002 320i 2.2 m54

Thanks

Ccv should be sucking vapour out of the valve cover area. That's its job. Sounds like it's failing.

Take of ya oil cap and put a plastic bag over the hole. The bag should be gently sucked at by the vacuum created by the ccv.

Ah okay. I take it if it's not sucking then replace the whole CCV with a replacement kit? If so are these kits better from the dealer or ECParts etc. Thanks for the reply.
