A run out gauge will be able to tell you

I'm on-call Christmas week, but its good rates. And i've only been called out 3 times all year so far. And lets face it, hardly any public sector workers will be working anyway

We don't have any Christmas on-call, which is a shame, as I could add a cron job to shutdown a vital server or something and get out of another family Christmas :(

Would setting that second option to aktiv fix that?
Should do, but it's been a while since I set mine.

I think Dave's point is that ~2% (based on my 330d at 1590kg) of the cars weight on one side won't compress the suspension 10mm (or even anything noticable). I could be wrong, but I doubt I compress the drivers side suspension that much and I weight about 12 stone

Yeah, e46. My e30 ones are done already

The rolling is easy, it's protecting the paint that's a skill, it seems
-
Rolled one of my arches. Didn't go well!
We used it as a test before doing a friend's Mark 1 scirroco. Seems bette. To destroy mine before scraping it than his arches.

Yep, like those, just make sure they facelift etc. Easy to fit, about 10 minutes work
-
Plus half a tank of fuel? 30kg? Not gonna make 10mm difference, surely?

Fast, slow? If it moves at all I'll be happy!
There's some fairly nice(ish) houses nearby with driveways and a decent sized garage that's just about affordable, but I need to start pulling my finger out - I'd rather have the E30 right now, but in a year or two's time, I'd be done with living at home. I don't want a flat (risk of loud neighbours and lack of i3 charging
), otherwise I think I'd have gone by now.
There's not much cheap that gives more power really. A new chip, maybe, and a decent manifold + BBTB, but even then, I think you're looking at under 20bhp for several hundred £££.
People say getting injectors refurbished is a good bet, but when I had mine done, there were practically as new to start with, so it was a complete waste of £££, except for piece of mind.

A V10? I've heard they bolt right in. As easy as changing a headlight bulb! :D (I had to buy a whole new headlight for mine as the cap had seized on, so maybe there's some accuracy there...)
As long as I don't screw the head over with an airlock when bleeding the coolant, yeah, it should be good and healthy
I think the only old moving part will be the oil pump (and possibly valve springs), otherwise, it's all refreshed/polished/replaced.
It'll be running a high compression (not sure quite what yet, but I'd guess between 10.8:1 - 11.*:1, depending on skim and headgasket used), and with a mild 272 degree cam (the graphs in this thread http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthread.php?t=85675&page=5 make me think mild is better, plus a higher duration cam can cause piston:valve clearance, which I CBA with). Power ETAs somewhere around the 200bhp-220bhp mark, I think.
I should have higher compression than all these: http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/index.php/E30_Dyno_Graphs#M20B28
It also seems like the ideal time to fit a Z3 short shift, refresh all the bushes in the gear selectors, and fix the weeping oil seal on the 'box while it's all out of the car. I'm trying to save for a house, but this car + my impatience isn't helping! I'm drawing the line at lightening flywheels though!

Nice fire!
I dropped the E30 engine off to a very nice chap in Wales (16th country visited for 2015
) for some work. Should be done in a week or two. This work will come to roughly £500, plus another £200-300 in parts (bearings, rockers, piston rings) + ~£300 on a cam shaft (not forgetting the original £250 for the engine). It adds up depressingly quickly, and around Christmas time too. I just hope the power increase is worth it!
Woulda been cheaper to throw in an M50/M52, but then, it doesn't look original, and there's nothing to say that won't be worn out either...

Why didn't he just move to the correct lane and slow down.
He was in the right lane - the middle lane. Lane 1 is for lorries! People these days! *tuts*

"Mr Stockdale, who runs a dashcam company, followed the lorry to a depot in Dunstable where an ambulance took him to hospital with neck and shoulder pain."
From those impacts? You'd get higher Gs in cornering fast or stopping quickly surely? Sounds like another whipcash douche bag.
"The Northamptonshire force said it could not attend because officers trained to deal with such incidents were in pursuit of a stolen car."
That implies that they only have one traffic unit? Unless they have different units for dealing with aggression, which seems likely, given aggression must be present in a large %age of all crimes.
While I'm sure it wasn't very nice for him, it all seems completely avoidable by using some common sense. It's not like it's hard to out run a lorry to get a bit of breathing space, esp. as it's clearly overtaking him twice, meaning that either the lorry slowed down, or, more likely, the car guy sped up, and then slowed down. If he'd sped up to overtake, why not stay at the faster speed to get away, or back right all and pull into some services or something?
Minimal sympathy here based on the evidence in the article.

That's brim to brim too, not the obc

Last two tanks were 34 and 37 mpg. Lifetime average of about38.
Low to mid 40d on a motorway. Best ever was 60.1 at 50mph from Glasgow to Aylesbury.
That's with a manual

If the OE stuff lasted over 10 years and 100k I was happy to buy the same parts again - albeit on other cars these parts last 200k miles!
For what its worth, mine lasted over 200k until the radiator failed (i think something hit it, as it leaked bang in the middle). I know they do fail, and if not caught, will cause big problems, but they're not all bad

Welcome along though. Nothing really to add that hasn't been covered, except the heater fan fsr can/does fail.

I thought it was the steering column blocking the turbos/manifold?

ON the same note: triple turbo charged 1 series anyone?

I've only seen a handful of the 550d in Germany, but if they do the 150d in RHD... want! 590lb/ft! 400bhp!

I found business use was under £5 more. A friend at work said it reduced his premium. Weird!
Cheers, Ash. I'm not screwing with the steering rack again, and while I'm doing the bushes, the wishbones are staying, so the subframe won't be coming off any time soon
Cheers though!

Easy to remove?
I've got free access to an engine crane now, so can make a start on my engine bay :)

, in answer to your question, the answer is no, nothing beats the 330cd
I'd argue the touring does. Cheaper to buy, more practical, less awkward front headlights, and the coolness of having a fast estate. As an all rounder, it's the best of the e46 bunch imo
I fully appreciate the appeal of the coupe though, and get the'old man' image of estate cars.
I wonder what a e60/e90 *30d/*35d costs for a goodun at the minute

A phone app using gps should be able to time 0-60, where safe, to help benchmark. Even better having an auto as theres no driver variation to cater for

(i did this with my e30 and guess it's about 50 bhp down on the 176 it should have had, by comparing it to the 0-60 Times of other models. Not scientific, or perfect, but for ball parking...)

Lease/contract price increases
in General car chat
Posted
Hi all,
As some of you know, I have a pending order with BMW for a factory built car on a PCH lease. Now, the car is due to arrive in Jan '16, and I've got a set price, signed off the contract and returned the paper work.
I had a call yesterday from BMW saying that Alphabet, the car providers (BMW owned) are 'stopping funding' (I guess subsidiaries?) against the model of car in question for anything delivered after the 31st Dec '15 , and that, as a result, the price will increase by £70p/m! Now, firstly, I thought that once the contract was signed, that it was set, they can't change it, unless one of the terms in the contract states that they can. The contract says that increases in VED of over £25(?) can trigger and increase, as can changes to corporation tax and capital allowances - so I don't think these clauses apply here.
So, can they do this? I strongly thought that they couldn't?! If I lost my job and needed a £70p/m reduction in cost, they'd tell me to go fish...
They are saying however that they've got another model in stock which is nearly the same spec (it's got self-parking and upgraded wheels/window tints over my spec'd model, but loses the leather interior/ambient lighting). I could have this one for £16 a month less, and it could be with me on Monday or Tuesday, if I sign the paperwork. I'd rather wait for 'my' car with the nicer interior, as I know how to park, and I don't care what wheels it has...)
I guess the main point of my question is: can they increase the cost by £70p/m on a 'lack of funding from their supplier' once I've signed off the contract?
Cheers!
Joe
