Rob-
Some prick has just reversed his van into my car He even had the cheek to say "ive only just got my no claims back is there any chance we could get it done without going through the insurance?" If it was light damage i would have saidyes fine but looking at it i dont think he could afford to pay for it??????????? Any1 any idea of how much this would cost to fix? Assuming 2 new doors, paint, possible damage tot window regulators, front door handle is f***ed, labour to replace the glass in both doors (assuming there's no damage to the bottomof the window where i cant see. Dontk now whether he's done any damage to the chassis either, he must have reversed out of his driveway at about 30mph! What a fookin day so far. PS Yes i know the car is filthy haha Edit: Just rang the insurance company, going to get a quote from a repair centre for the damage then report back to them. Jorge-
Ouch, that looks bad. If he wants to do it out of insurance, you could get a couple of prices anyway just to see, so long as you chose the bodyshop it shouldn't be a problem?
Mikey
Tell him to go do one mate and get it done properly through the insurance through BMW or an authorised repairer. No idea how much it will cost but I don't imagine it will be cheap. Bad form buddy.
Aly
What a tw4t... Sorry to hear that mate! Looks quite bad! Hope it gets sorted quick.
Sam_Burns
F*ck him and his no claims bonus - should have drove a bit more carefully then shouldnt he. Go through the insurance. Thats a pretty hefty dent and i doubt that he would be able to pay for it. By the way - were are your MV1s?
suhail97
Mate, tell your insurance ASAP! Someone did this to my mrs before we got married (it was a light scratch though) so she didn't tell the insurance, after a few quotes it dragged on and on etc, and what do you know, the person moved / changed car etc and couldn't be found! Unless he's willing to pay BMW to repair it then tell him he's lost his no claims! He hit your car and why shouldn't you have it repaired to your and your insurance companies standards! zimzimmer46
t**t.....its looks pretty bad. Well no how u feel and many others on here. The cost of mine is about £4500 but thats with bmw including the cost of the hire car.
Singh
I would urge you to go via BMW or a decent bodyshop if you know one. Get a price, and give it to him, and say either he pays, or his insurance does. I would be inclined to go insurance route, last thing you want is for him to not be able to pay the bill at the end of it.
Jamesy Boy ACS3d
Bad luck mate. Agree that that level of damage needs to be sorted by the insurance company, as it could have affected the chasis. Hope you get everything sort ok. Also sod him and his no claims, by the sound of it he shouldn't even have a licence!!!!!
Rob-
Cheers folks, got to come back to the repair centre at 4 o'clock to get the written quote to send to the insurance company. The guy thinks between £1-1.5k to fix it. There's no damage to the chassis so thats either a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it? I reckon the car's only worth ~£3k so dont know whether they'd write it off as Cat D? Roll on 4 bells @ Sam, sold m8 mv1s a couple of months back m8
Dicky
How the hell did he do that? It looks like it has been he has hit it square on and either end of the car must have been in both mirrors, complete doughnut and shouldn't have a license! Mate sorry to hear and see that insurance all the way I bet that will be an expensive repair to
Dicky
Mate, they won't Cat D it for that I had the insurance agreeing a repair the other day for over £150 more than I felt the vehicle was worth
Rob-
He was in a van, still it's no excuse, as you say m8 it would have been in both mirrors. I'll get the exact price later on

suhail97
How much no claims does he get if he thinks paying for that repair will be easier?
mit
Similar damage on my car 2 years ago cost £5k to repair, but that was including one door and replacing the rear quarter panel. Just doors will be easier/cheaper, as it'll be new door skins rather than whole new doors. I went via insurance and BMW dealer for mine, and suggest you do the same. Problem is if you go via dealer the cost will be high and the insurance company may well write the car off because of that.
simonlpearce
Ouch looks nasty, id say a minimum of £1k... Def get it done through the insurance, not your problem he loses his no claims he should have learnt the last time. Could be a good excuse to get a few other bits and pieces touched up whilst at it. Gaz
Def go through insurance mate. That's easily over a grands worth of damage. Possibly even 2k once you take into account windows etc if they're damaged.
Rob-
yeah he said he's done a good few BMWs and drives one himself. There were 2 BMWs in at the time, they seemed a well established and proffesional place and are isurance approved so i'm not stressing about the quality of the job. No question now it's going through the insurance. Looking at it now i'm not too bothered about it. Could have been worse.
Gaz
Yes mate could have been a lot worse. This is inconvenient but not the end of the world. Couple of weeks and all will be fine again. Plus, if you had any small dents or scratches on those 2 doors, you don't need to worry about getting them touched up anymore
Rob-
Just had a call from the repair place, theyve quoted £2100. Got to go and get it in writing later to fax to the insurance company.
mit
Looking at it now i'm not too bothered about it. Could have been worse. Excellent attitude It kind of bothers me when people get mad about accidents. They are just accidents after all (i.e not on purpose), and a car is just a car no matter how much you care about it! Sam_Burns
When we look to repair a car, we would take into account the glasses guide book price and the repair costs inclusive of VAT. IF the repair costs are more than 66% of the vehicles glasses guide book price then we would effectively write the car off. But i do know that many insurers repair up to around 75% - 80% of the vehicles value so you may have a repairable car there. That said, if they do write it off you would be offered the glasses guide Retail price (dealer) rather than private sale as its 9 years old. Any older and you would be offered the private sale price.
