Hi, I thought I would introduce myself. I just picked up a new BMW 320CD Sport in Estroil blue on Tuesday night. I don't know much about the BMW scene, although had a fully loaded 335D for a bit, more of an Audi guy, so I hope to hang around here and pick up some knowledge from you guys.

My other car is an Audi S8 4.2 V8 quattro but sadly it broke down last week and requires a new engine so I decided to buy this and use it as my new daily, and keep the S8 as a weekend treat, when it eventually comes back!

Today the first thing I did was book the car in for a sw**ky service at BMW for tomorrow morning, then on Saturday I am driving two hours away to a place called PMW to get the car de flapped (Anyone used them, what are they like?) and lastly an interior detail on Sunday from a guy on detailing world. It is filthy so I will post some hopefully good transformation pictures on the weekend. Am I forgetting anything, apart from the swirl flaps is there anything else you guys would recommend? I want this car to last me so don't mind spending a little extra on maintenance.

Next month I may get it remapped and am also replacing the tyres, they have enough tred but are a really crappy make I have never heard of and don't like them.

Anyway, few pictures below and I look forward to seeing some of you at one of your meets sometime soon.

The new car

The S8, in the first picture it was being used by Audi UK at the world biggest Audi centre in West London for their new A8 launch, that chef is from TV (Alan Murchinson) and the second one was taken last week when the engine died. :censored:

Welcome to the zone Amar.

Nice looking car there, looking forward to details/pictures of how the detailing goes. Be sure to get before and after photos.

S8 looks nice, what happened?

Where abouts are you located and where is PMW? I have a local guy to me in pershore his business is Allan PMW and he is an ex bmw mechanic who has set up his own independant. I have used him once or twice and he seems ok, but has better knowledge of the older BMW's.

Welcome to the forum though.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm from Leamington Spa which is about 20 mins from Coventry, so I am driving 2 and a half hours to PMW, crazy I know but they wanted £100 less for the job then my local indie and I have heard a few good reports online which lead me to believe they seem to know the job very well after having done quite a few.

Car came back from BMW after its service today, my god it feels so much smoother and more powerful to drive. It has some advisories, they told me it needed a new offside droplink, so I brought two from them (I'm a sucker for genuine parts) and will get them fitted by PMW tomorrow. They also say I need new rear discs which I will buy and install myself tomorrow evening.

About the S4, yes it only puts out 1BHP more then the M3 but it did beat it around the top gear test track, I drove one of them S4s yesterday (my brother in laws, he was drunk so drove it home) it felt very quick, but I haven't driven an M3 to compare it with. One thing I do know though is when I had my 335D, it used to do 0-60 in 6.0secs in the dry, in the wet it would be just over 7secs whereas the S8 does 0-60 in 6.3 secs regardless of soaking wet/dry I reckon the S4 would be upto 20mph whilst the M3 was still launching!

I really am smitten by how this thing drives, I went around a roundabout and was so suprised at how flat it cornered and how good it felt through the steering, the S8 could never dream of giving such great feedback. It makes me hanker after a nice 6 cylinder one as I am really buying into this BMW driving experience thing, but alas I had to be sensible!

The S8 dropped a piston I think, it needs a full strip down to investigate further so I have just asked the Audi specialist to look out for a Audi RS 6 engine for me. (500BHP) so as soon as we source one of them, I will have my S8 back, with interest!

Anyone got an M Sport 6 speed gear nob they are willing to sell, mine is worn? I also need a front fog light as a stone chip hit and smashed it! Anyway, sorry for the essay but in summary I LOVE the way the car looks, miss the S8s noise and performance but love the handling and the 50+ MPG. Will try to get some decent pictures of it and will defiantly do the detailed interior write up soon.

Cool, whereabouts was that? Its going to cost about a grand for a new engine then £300 to fit it by an ex Audi master tech. So not that bad, but I can't find an engine so I have asked him to find an RS6/4 engine to put in instead, I thought I may as well, if I'm spending money I might as well get something a little special. Saying that I am bidding on a damaged S8 so if I get that then an S8 engine it shall be, had my gearbox replaced last month at £1.5k so it really is a car that I love! Best thing was driving uphill past all the Bimmers,Mercs and Jags when we had the recent snow, I do like quattro.

Correct, but remapped they are at least 500BHP as I saw at a recent dyno day, most were 515BHP mark & I wouldn't go to all the hassle of fitting the engine then having it standard, plus I would get hybrid turbos to take it to 580 :D

I didn't want to loose thousands in depreciation, I sold it at a time where I could minimise how much was lost. Also the warranty was running out, and it had already been into BMW many times. It had four new Xenon headlights, and they failed in the middle of the night twice..! I will probably get another in a few years. It was a great car, only regret was not mapping it.

Does anyone want to swap my silver alu type trim for a dark wood type? I think the silver only really looks good against a black dash, want dark wood for the contrast...

Hi chaps, well I had the sw**ky service yesterday from BMW and the car feels more smooth and generally nicer to drive already. They said that I needed a new droplink and advised to change both, so I told them to give me the parts and I took them along with me to PMW today where they de swirled me and fitted the drop links. I really need to add how impressed I was with their service. From the first call to enquire/book the car in, to me driving away the service was impeccable. First of all, when you get to the person on reception he knows what he is talking about straight away and put up with all my questions, then afterwards the technician even came out to talk to me about the job and I got to see the old parts. The whole process was explained to me in detail, and I can now finally drive the car without the fear of the engine blowing itself to pieces, so I am very pleased the car has been de swirled and it had a sort of breather or filter added which doesn't clog up like the old design one at no charge, how great is that!? PMW are highly recommended and defiantly worth the five hour round trip to know the job was done properly. If anyone is going to leave their car with them, there is a really nice town centre about five minutes walk away with lots of shops/bookstores/restaurants/BK/Maccy Ds to keep you occupied.
