So how much ltr of paint approximately will i need for a E46 coupe ? And also where the can i buy a Genuine BMW paint from ? Last one - What colour should i go for ? 1. Alpine White 2. Marcus Posted June 28, 2010 Report Share Posted June 28, 2010 its cheap,ill give you that..i take it its only an outside spray...is it lights etc out trim off or just mask up.does this place have a booth/oven? mask up wil look pony any colour.. a trip to autopaint or whatever should see you with the paint. ask the sprayer how much youll need. plus youll need laquer if its metallic and a specific basecoat primer...changing primer colours alters the top coat colour. DJ Syxx Posted June 28, 2010 Report Share Posted June 28, 2010 A "full respray" to me is when they do the whole car inside and out. Thats not a full respray. I wouldn't do an outside respray in a different colour. Once you open your bonnet and see the original colour aint gonna look right. If the bodywork is in needing freshing up then just spray the outside in the same colour. Least it will hold its value better compared to a diff colour. You wouldn't be able to sell me that car for any price afterwards! If you do go for it, have it all photo documented so you can prove that it wasn't sprayed due to accident damage. He said he knew his price was high but it comes with a 5 year guarantee on the work. My friends mate went with a white wrap on his 325ti and to be honest it looked quite nice with the black MV2's it had. But the only down point was that you could see the original colour of the car (silver) on the inside of the doors, boot and engine bay. I guess this is how yours will look like if you go for it. White with a black engine bay could possibly look standard-ish though, and the main feature of that particular car will be that it has a full M3 conversion with diesel running costs, so anyone specifically looking for an M3 replica would overlook any works like that to have a Diesel 'M3'. They are already well aware that the car will have had extensive modification. But when it comes to a regular e46, i think it would put buyers off, certainly me! especially a candy apple red/white/silver/whatever with a blue engine bay and sills/doors. I would walk away. I'm not saying don't do it though mate, i'm always interested in respray project threads and stuff, it can make a tired old car look 10 years newer. I think your paintwork must be in need of some tlc if your unhappy with it. I think the above advice is good, get it professionally detailed or if your keen on the respray stick to topaz!!
