sag2
Hi there Very nice car there lovely colour. Just wondered how you coded your car to do the different things. I've got a Snapon machine just woundered if you could do it with that?
Rich_D
Just wondered how you coded your car to do the different things. I've got a Snapon machine just woundered if you could do it with that? You need a cable, a laptop and some software specifically for coding, most of us use NCS Expert, your Snap On machine is just a code reader and cannot do it

lloydhickson
Your Mod list is very similar to what I want to do to my car We even have the same leather seats however mine are in the red colour and I think it looks amazing with the two stitched lines down the middle! JasonK
Another minor update! Excuse the quality of the pics - taken with my phone in the dark! I removed the EGR valve for inspection, and found it to be remarkably clean! Despite its cleanliness, I set it aside and blanked off the Exhaust Inlet to the valve, and fitted an Allard bypass pipe in it's place. It is a slightly newer style one than those I have seen before. It fits the OEM pipe from the intercooler perfectly, uses the factory securing clip, and also has a place to put the engine acoustic cover mount - Bonus! Fitted: Being a later car, it almost instantly complained about insufficient exhaust gases, and lit the engine management light. So, the last part of this minor update was a remap to delete the EGR function (deleted from the map completely, rather than just delete the reported error!) with a bit of a tweak to take advantage of the de-cat. End result is a smoother, quieter idle (which surprised me), and with the additional tweaks to the map, a bit more pull as well! Next planned mod: Either the wheel re-furb (In Black Chrome), or getting it on some rollers to see what she is making. Mods on hold: Re-colour cube interior - I cannot decide what colour. At one point, I thought Sparkling Graphite would look good - it would kind of match the titanium storm parts (dark grey, with a hint of purple in the light), as well as the outside! I might try and get hold of a scrap bit of the cube trim for the passenger side dash, and try it. Thanks for looking Edited September 29, 2013 by JasonKruys Rebel

JasonK
A minor update! The EGR pipe that was blanked started to leak. It leaked to such a degree that it affected (marginally) the way the car drove / idled, but more importantly that exhaust fumes were entering the cabin! The leak occurred just at the back of the 'fat' bit between the two bends. This 'fat' bit appeared to be a kind of 'flexi' part, similar to the one in the primary cat. I guess the fact that the pipe was no longer securely held in place by being attached to the EGR valve, coupled with the weight (not insignificant) of the blank in the end, meant that it eventually failed due to engine vibration/or forces exerted when going over bumps. I made three attempts to permanently fix/seal the break, all three failing after a few days. I tried metal putty, gun gum, and various other exotic compounds, as well as rotating the last part of the pipe such that it rested on the engine and was not hanging. In the end I decided the only option was to take it off altogether! Armed with the knowledge of a BMWLand member that I had been discussing the mod with, who had just done it, I set to work! I completely removed the whole EGR pipe/cooler/thermostat assembly from the front of the engine. I then blanked the EGR outlet on the exhaust manifold with a blank obtained from ebay (Poland!), and blanked/capped off the in/out feeds of the coolant system that connected to the EGR thermostat. I elected to do it in the cold and rain, and then dark, so it was a pain in the bum! Access was limited to some degree, and the viscous fan had to come off.Blank fitted to Exhaust manifold:Overview where you can see that complete lack of EGR system, and the caps on the coolant pipes:Framed in view, so you can see what a piece of piss it will be to replace the main stat in future - drain, remove fan, take stat out - I reckon an hour at most:And finally, overview with covers fitted, if anyone is interested!: The benefits of doing this are threefold: 1. It *should* never leak again! 2. Changing the main stat in future will be a doddle! 3. I will never have to spend another 50 quid ever again replacing the really poorly designed EGR thermostat, that was not serving any real purpose once the bypass was in place! Have done a few hundred miles since, and all is well. Edited January 5, 2014 by JasonKruys Mr Xen, Rebel and The_Judge_

JasonK
Thanks guys. Not been on a rolling road, but it is a Stage 2 MSD map (aggressive-ish), which should be making circa 270bhp. I'll get it on one day, but tbh I'm not that fussed, the improvement in driveability is awesome, and unless you can add big chunks of power over and above what it is, I'm not convinced you'd notice the difference day to day. My e-peen requires no enlarging Syxx, it is indeed, but marginally better, of course, and less common Gaiters came from ebay, topgaiters (based in Southampton). bungers
Thats a shame about having to do all that work removing the EGR cooler etc, it looks as though Allard have changed the design of the delete so there is something to connect the feed pipe to? http://www.allardaluminiumproducts.co.uk/air-systems/egr-delete-kits/bmw/330-d/egr-valve-delete-power-pipe-kit-bmw-330-d-e46-model.html

The 'fixing' you see to the left of that picture is on the top of the valve - there to allow you to fix the bracket for the acoustic cover on to it. The item on the top, is on the right of the valve, a 'tap' provided for a boost gauge, if desired.I was going to remove the cooler anyway, having the extra (crap) thermostat on there was undesirable. Another (unused) component to fail, and unnecessary expense. When it does go, as you know, it causes havoc with economy. Also having to faff around loosening it and moving it to do other work, when it was not required narked me. Not that you do it often, but the main stat change will be a cinch now! The leaking of the (probably already damaged) pipe just accelerated the activity! bungers
Ah right, well that's poor on their behalf then, I've had one of there's before & it included a 'stub' for the old feed pipe to connect to. What did you use to block off the EGR coolant pipes? I've got one issue; my EGR can't be coded out for some reason :-(
JasonK
Indeed, most I have seen have. I used silicone end caps, 18mm internal diameter, and used the hose clamps fitted to the existing assembly/coolant pipes. Yeah, I saw before that your EGR can't be coded out. Very strange. Mine has got to be one of the later ECU's, so more likely to be an issue I would have thought. In fact, I still don't believe it! If it can be coded in, it can be coded out, surely? If the map can be altered, why would one very specific and only one very specific part of the map be inaccessible/locked down, and how? Have you spoken to Stu at MSD? Seems to be one of the more knowledgeable folk. I have been told many times that the swirl flaps cannot be coded out, but people have had it done? bungers
Cheers Jason, I'll give him a bell. I was told by both people who've mapped my car it's more to do with the difference in hardware between ECU's? If I can get mine mapped out (along with the swirl flaps actuator) I'll do the same as you & completely remove the EGR system. JasonK
JasonK
Update time! 6 months of deliberation and internal conflict ensued - should I refurb' my MV2's (and if so, which colour?! ) and continue to get robbed twice a year to swap my winter and summer tyres over, or should I use the refurb' and the fact I needed a full set of tyres as an excuse for some new 'Summer' wheels . The last tyre swap for the Winter resulted in a nearly brand new front tyre with 7mm of tread on, having the bead AND the rim protector split suspiciously in line with the claws on the tyre machine, and the garage refusing to accept responsibility...so decision made BMW Performance 269 was the choice. I have been looking at these wheels for over a year now - I love the style, and love the finish. I kept trying to look for similar, cheaper wheels, but nothing quite hit the mark, and: •Aftermarket wheels where generally heavier - which probably would make no discernable difference, but I would 'know' I was carrying all that extra un-sprung weight •Aftermarket wheels have all kinds of different offsets - this was supposed to make my life easier changing over wheels, and didn't want to get into the business of having to swap spacers/bolts every time, or have the wheels sit 'just a bit too much' in. So, genuine wheels, with identical offsets to the MV2's means that there is no pissing around with different spacers or length bolts, and they sit just how I want them - a gnats tadger between the arch and the tyre with no rubbing! Of course, all that information is useless, and probably no interest to anyone at all - so here are a few pics! Rebel and Mr Moo
