izools
So I bought a '2000 330d a few weeks ago. Have now had it de-flapped, done a full Inspection II; the chap noticed some perished VAC lines which have been replaced and also some silly little box in line with the fuel pressure sensor that tricked the ECU into over-pressuring has been removed. Did a forté engine flush during the oil change and some additive through the last bit of fuel to help clean out the injectors etc. He also cleaned the EGR and inlet manifold. It still doesn't feel right, there's very little boost and even then it only really kicks in when you floor it, at the top of the rev range. Any ideas? simonlpearce
Turbo leak perhaps or duff MAF?
mit
Sounds like MAF to me, but that would manifest itself really strongly. Recently my friend's x3 diesel had similar symptoms and I thought it was the MAF but actually it needed a terraclean after a few years of having no oil changes (or the wrong oil). TriggerFish
I've just had this - was the pressure converter vacuum piping
izools
Oops posted in wrong section. My bad. Thanks guys will have a look at the weekend. I considered terracleaning in the past but it seems like quite an intense process and really don't want bills escalating quickly on the off-chance of a fix. It's a lovely car, but it is still 14 years old with 157K. It isn't worth spending a massive amount on it. Just dropped £400 for new tyres and £250 for Insp. II / De-Flap... Is this terraclean really any good? I.e. much better than some engine flush prior to an oil change and some additive in the fuel tank? I wonder how terraclean would resolve issues caused by lack of an oil change, as the terraclean fluids follow the path of the fuel, not the oil or coolant...? Could be VAC piping. Some was replaced yesterday but there might still be more VAC lines to look at. Or a sticky turbo actuator? /urgh
TriggerFish
You can actuate the turbo by hand to see if it's sticky or not Here's my recent thread, if it helps: http://www.e46zone.com/forum/topic/52286-330d-boost-issues/
mit
No idea, I only assumed the oil change stuff based on what I was told about the car tbh, might equally have been rubbish fuel going in or filter not changed etc.
simonlpearce
Do a smoke test on it to check for leaks on the intake piping.
