The_Judge_
Since the house move I've been a bit quiet on the car front. Anyway, I visited @TriggerFish at the weekend and he was kind enough to give me some bits I needed. Replacement Intercooler inlet hose and rear speakers. The old hose was quite weathered and didn't feel very rubbery anymore ... I handed in my notice at work last week, so today was a "work from home today on final stuff before the new start", I got through a lot of work ... honest (!) TriggerFish
How do the Hertz sound? If you want a hand to solder on a fly lead let me know next time you're in my area and I'll happily teach you how to solder (it's dead easy, really). Thanks again for the lift - it really was appreciated. I'm currently sat on a south east train hoping they don't strike between Waterloo and my destination! The Piccadilly line is still a complete mess too.

The_Judge_
Nothing much to report except to say thanks once again to @TriggerFish. Popped over to his man cave tonight to pick up wheel arch liner and a how to on soldering When it gets a bit warmer I'll attempt to put the wheel arch onto my car ! The_Judge_
Not much to report except: The Meyle Platinum Discs I fitted to front and rear in Sep 2015 (about 20,000 miles ago) are already so bad they needed replacing. My steering was going all wonky whenever I braked, not sue if that's just regular expectancy or the Meyles don't hold up long enough. IMO that seems an awfully short lifetime. Anyway, I'm now just waiting to hear about the Gov't Diesel scrappage scheme which I probably won't qualify for ......
rasa
ive done 35k on pagid fronts and still great, they have worn. but its on second set of pads around 1 year ago,ive got them on rear also, and just last week fitted pagid to the rear of my focus st,i have nothing but praise for pagid, and they do look far superior to any other brand when sat next to each other, also have anti rust zinc coating..and around the edges they are embossed with lettering.they just look so well engineered. The_Judge_
Survived a close incident with the BMW jack of death. Drivers side trim wasn't so lucky though ... I must swap my Jack for a low profile one so I don't have to use the BMW jack at all ... Edited May 10, 2017 by The_Judge_
TriggerFish
I drive onto a plank of wood, and then use my jack. Largely because the 330 is too low for my low entry jack, but it sounds like it would help you too! Glad you're ok though, that's the main thing The_Judge_

They just slot it (with a bit of prodding) as they are literally just moulded-flexible plastic. What I'm yet to see is what happens on the passenger side after repeated sliding/forward/upward etc of the chair depending on wife/parents/friends who end up sitting there. They're quite handy (but narrow). Since I previously fitted two USB cables coming out from near the cigarette lighter, I can leave them in this plastic and on long journeys the missus and I leave our phones charging but still get to use the cup holders. #littlethings! TriggerFish
But... door cards... I used to fit 3 pairs of sunglasses into mine (until I had to get prescription glasses, and scaled back to one pair).
The_Judge_
Door cards for glasses, yes you'd struggle to get glasses in these. These are for thin things like phones charging, important papers, emergency night dagger and what not Edited June 26, 2017 by The_Judge_

The_Judge_
Lol - ok later this year as in 2018 ........ @JasonK - New car? Interesting !!! @MICK 330 - Read on ... (!) So, for Christmas I treated myself to a new stereo, the previous one was soooooo slow .... This one runs much faster, I am getting poor DAB reception but that seems to be a common theme without a sharkfin it seems, but I'm very happy with everything else. It was an expensive purchase, but I figure if I do end up having to scrap the car I could transpose this across to the next one ... INPA always shows two errors in my car - EGR (ever since I removed the pipework) and glow plugs. I recently noticed I was getting an additional error (6660 coolant ....) after some googling I figured I could juet replace the coolant thermostat. So, I intended to replace the sensor today but gave up before I began. INPA showed yet more errors today (something about RPM speeds) and the car is now consistently failing to start intermittently, and occasionally the gearbox warning light comes on the dash and I think I 'may' have a dodgy injector. It's probably all fixable ... but I'm not sure if the money justifies it. So, I'm going to do what I do best, and ignore it for another month ...... I had xtrons accessories before so I went for xtrons again, but something with more oomph. The lack of RAM kills these units unless you f*ck about removing google services etc, the one I've bought has 2gb ram and you can see the difference, plus boats more CPU: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XTRONS-9-Octa-Core-Android-6-0-Car-GPS-Stereo-DAB-4G-4K-for-BMW-E46-M3-318-325/112434154822?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649. After fitting, the rear camera worked straight away etc. radio even seems a bit better One thing I need to keep an eye on is how much power it uses when the car is off, it comes back into life toooooo fast. It seems to be going to sleep rather than completely powering off, perhaps I need to look into the wires behind and make sure the right ones are conected ...... Next - Ha, no idea yet, it's not like I'm siting around dreaming of a new car. Like @rasa I'm kinda emotionally (and financially) attached to this one having spent good money on keeping it in reasonable order, I just had 5 buckles removed from three of the alloys (!) Plus, I have a spare set of wheels with summer tyres. I also like the flappy paddles and may re-trim the steering wheel myself one day so I think it makes sense to get another car so that I can just shift the good stuff across. The car still drives really really well, steering is spot on now the wheels are straight, power is great - still loving the remap, the control I have with the paddles make the auto liveable too, sigh ..... Ofcourse, the idea of a fancy new carp with boot loads more hp is great, or mabe an i8 (hahah!) but I'd rather try and see this car out till it just gives out completely and then have to think about the new car, so maybe one more year and come back and decide in late 2018 ..... So if I do have to switch before then, I think I'll stick to another e46 rather than spend big bucks on a more newer fancy car, but go back to petrol, my 328i was fun back in the day! We're planning on doing some construction in our flat this year so that will be the priority for now ....... MICK 330 and momo
momo
Kinda in a similar situation myself.. Spent so much on the upkeep of it over the years, needs rear wheel bearings this month (absolute nightmare with mine as the hub nut is completely rusted, so there's nothing left to grab). It's costing more than it should. BUT once done - it'll drive like new again as i've had everything else done recently. New tyres, brakes, RTABs, CSB, Guibo, shocks, springs.. lol. Fitted new front wings a few years ago, but the rear arches are rotten. They look horrific! But I just don't think it's worth getting them repaired. Been done twice, came back worse than before twice. So the only way to sort it properly is weld in a new patch panel on each side - so £1k? Not worth it.. No idea what i'll get next though - been saying i'll sell it "next year" for the last 6 years! I'll keep running it until it dies I think. The_Judge_
One of the reasons I do want to keep the car is because it's the ideal way of trying out all these types of things on a car where if I bugger it up, who cares, it's an old ar anyway.
