Ashley1995
Well this evening has been rather unproductive, I've just spent over 3 hours working on the car all for nothing.. I started off by changing an indicator bulb, simple and it worked, great! Next i had a crack and fixing my radio antenna, although i get signal the motor does not raise and lower it like it should. No luck here, think i need a new one. Next up i gave the car a proper good wash and polish, only too have the ars**ole across the road have his daily bonfire ( yes daily ) and cover my car in ash.. not amused. Lastly a few weeks ago i swapped the heater matrix and water valve but i never got around to actually reconnecting the water pipes, so i thought lets have a go tonight. What could go wrong.. Connect up the pipes, start the engine only to have my passenger footwell fill with water! Engine off, hairdryers and towels to get rid of the water and disconnect pipes and re-fit the u-bend that was in place originally. Just when i thought 'oh at least that bulb worked' i lock the car and yep.. no light from that bulb. So to sum up, I achieved nothing! oh the joys of owning an old car. Still had to take a picture before it got too dark though. The_Judge_ and DJ Syxx
TriggerFish
Bad times I've a temperamental rear indicator too. Really annoying!
Ashley1995
I had planned on changing the engine mounts today, but thanks to the crappy weather I couldn't. Usually i would get it in the garage but with one being full of E46 parts and the other a complete mess while me and dad are rebuilding our workbench and storage space etc i couldn't. So i was sitting around with not a lot to do as the interior was all back together. Until i saw a build thread with someone who had used a sharpie to colour their speedo needles red. So quick drive to Tesco to get a permanent marker, whipped the unit out stripped it down and coloured the needles. kept me busy for an hour or two so all good. TriggerFish
Looks good, amazing how much better they look for two seconds of work! Have you replaced the dash bulbs yet, or are yours still bright? Out of interest, does yours have ABS? I've not got a white ABS outline on the dash, same as yours, but the ABS light is wired in using a separate mini-loom, not one of the blue/white connectors... Ashley1995
Cheers, is worth doing I think. Funny you say that, I did today although it was only to a couple of bulbs I had laying around. I guess you've seen, there's an orange cover over the bulb and then an orange face over where the light shines through so I removed the orange cover over the bulb to see how this helps. Haven't driven in the dark yet to see any difference but might change them again to some extra bright ones if needs be. Mine does have ABS, and yeah your right there is a separate loom with a small plug in which goes directly into this bulb. Mine is wired in. TriggerFish
Won't they just be white light now? Unless you've used orange bulbs? Awesome, thanks! That's put my mind at rest about there being another bit of bodgery! I'd assumed that someone had tapped it into the battery light feed or something. Cheers for that
Ashley1995
Well I've just had a look and yeah they are white with slight orange tint, may order some ultra bright LED ones tomorrow and replace the orange cover. Although white is quite nice, it's not very BMW Not a problem! Yours looking at being done for Santa Pod in September? Sent using Tapatalk
TriggerFish
Ha! There's the million dollar question! 4-5 weeks time, so I'm hoping so! Even if I just turn up with a seat, some windows and a body kit. I dunno if I'll have time to finish assembly before then or not, assuming I even get it back in time... They reckon a couple of day's worth of welding before paint/curing, so if they start on Wednesday, like they're hoping...

Ashley1995
Well as it turns out, just like Joe, my car seemed to be filled with just water and no coolant too. How do I know, well I've just overheated in stop start traffic [emoji106] Sent using Tapatalk TriggerFish

TriggerFish
Welcome to the club! Fwiw, it should run fine on water (my e46 was on water while I tested the new rad etc for leaks). Might be worth checking the fan or whatever systems these have?
Ashley1995
I think it's the fact I was sitting in the sun in traffic so it's had no good air flow to cool it Sent using Tapatalk Edited September 3, 2014 by Ashley1995

Ashley1995
Finally got around to swapping the engine mounts yesterday. Also removed the spare wheel to save weight/fuel as i don't have a jack in the car and i don't think the wheel would fit the arch anyway. Popped into work to collect some bits for tomorrow and as the place is dead on a Sunday i got some photos. Although only with my iPhone.
