Why bother subscribing?

Recommended Posts

20 per page, 955 pages = 19100 members. I expect half of those are no posters, spammers etc. Let's say 10000 for the sake of it.

That's less than 1% of your members subscribing. You take in about £3000 a year ish. I don't know how much it costs to run this site - care to enlighten us?

No, not really. Because you're going to take cold figures, which have no bearing on what amount of time and effort I put in.

~2800 members have posted in the last year (where there post count is above 10, to avoid 1 time posters). So about 10% of active posters subscribe.

I still don't get why you're harping on about it. Why are you trying to achieve?

I'm trying to achieve an understanding of your point of view. You took my first post as a criticism, it was actually meant as a constructive suggestion. So tell me, how much does this site cost to run? More than £2930 p/yr?

Was I? You starter asking how much it costs to run and figures for subs.

The fee is nominal, so it doesn't cost you a fortune, but added up my side, it runs the place. You also get benefits, to encourage it. I could take it away and put ads up for everyone, but, it was the members who asked for a subscription all those years ago, TO help out. I've even been told to increase it!

The rest is irrelevant. I put time and effort in, if I did take a bit and put it in my pocket, so what?

I'm guilty but will subscribe very soon, just keep forgetting tbh. I've never tried to sell anything on here, the only thing I've advertised was a free back box for a 330ci which nobody seemed to want. All of my posts are constructive and I haven't kicked up any fuss.....yet. I do agree though it's a great forum. :)

Sam I think you're looking for an argument that just isn't there mate, I made a suggestion, you got defensive about giving away free advertising. All I meant is, as far as selling a vehicle is concerned. Why not give non subscribers the chance to pass on their decent cars to newbies who will come here to look.

You know pistonheads just started off simply as a classified section on the forum?

On MLR for example, non subs can't view FS parts ads. They can read and post in car classifieds though. I think it encourages not only a decent number of tried and tested, well maintained cars for people to view (how many people browse m3cutters cars for sale pages without even registering?), but also directs people to the forums with queries that they wouldn't usually do if they found the same car on eBay. They charge £37 a year for subs but for that you get access to premium traders, discounts, a monthly mag, stickers, insurance discounts, a dash plaque, and more.

You don't see what I'm getting at, I don't really know why I chipped in with my opinion now lol.

I think its worth a tenner, I have hosted sites and had to pay for domains but its not about the money and the hard work he does keeping a site open to get information which would cost at a garage don't forget garages charge more when there not getting a lot of work in.

This forum could save a lot of people money buy asking questions here and I like coming on here each night after work and seeing if I can help, it helps me relax as I been in a garage all day working.

You started about money first. I have worked damn hard on the site, and it annoys me when people question my reasons about it. From 1 member to what it's now.

I'm not fussed what other places do, this is what we do. I want people to subscribe, as its a good revenue stream, over ads anyway. So I give benefits to the people who do. Motors etc will have big investors behind it and will be losing money, even with adverts running.

As an individual, I can't afford to take money out of my pocket to run the site.

Like others, the money I've saved by spending that £40 over four years is worth every penny! I've not sold on here but bought off a couple of members and grabbed a few good deals so again, well worth the £10p/a.

Plus it's a great way to waste time when sat on the throne :)

Sometimes I subscribe, sometimes I don't. I have only ever sold 1 item here I think and I only put it on here as I was already subscribed. I'm not all that active on this forum vs the others I'm a member of but if I was, I would subscribe again.

Every forum I've ever been a member of that has a subs option I have paid at least once.

A snap shot in to Sams mind....

Joking aside ...... I will support the forum as it has saved me a lot of money on my car  and no doubt going forward

So for me £10 is minimal to me to show my support
