TMW
Hi All, I've had a search but I can't find a solution to my problem! I have the factory bluetooth kit in the car (330d convertible) but I just can not kick off the pairing procedure - it just will not start!! I have the bluetooth module installed in the boot as per the picture below, and I have what I believe to be the pairing button (image of a face speaking on a button on a now empty phone cradle in the centre console) and have tried the press and hold whilst turning on ignition procedure but nothing doing. I've also tried the trick of unplugging it all and shorting pin 1 to 17 and turning on the ignition then stopping the short etc, but nothing then I realised theres no wire in pin 17! Then found more info to try pin 1 to 2, but again nothing happening (at least theres a wire there this time! Incidentally, there are two spare cables not connected to anything in the boot under the module, are they for anything to do with the bluetooth? and if so what are they for and where do they go?! Pic below: Thanks in advance for any help!!
dooge
Firstly, what phone are you pairing it to? This wont work for anything thats not old. As in the old business Nokia's, maybe an Iphone 3, that kind of era. I went in to BMW to ask this and they said virtually no smartphone will work with the setup in the e46 due to age. The only way is to get an aftermarket bluetooth module and wire it in so it utilises the original speakers, mic and buttons but is compatible with later phones. momo
As above - depends on the phone. Might be a non-starter before you begin. There's 13 generations of bluetooth ULF's that were fitted to the car. iPhones generally work (I know it works with the iPhone 5 on mid-early ULF's) as they still have old bluetooth stacks. Android devices have their bluetooth stacks updated with newer versions of the OS so anything after Android 4.2 won't work. You can upgrade the ULF to a latest (for E46's) gen 13 model for around £400. Or pay £150 - get a decent HU with built in Bluetooth and avoid the can of worms that is "BMW Bluetooth" As a side-effect of that you'll also improve sound quality for music. lol. TMW
Was starting to wonder as much about the age of the setup etc, curiosity os getting the better of me though! Thing is, its not that the phone won't connect, its that I can't even get the thing to enter bluetooth pairing mode in the first place! Firstly, what phone are you pairing it to? Will have to have a look into this as its not something I've thought of before - any chance you are able to point me towards a guide etc?! Will have a search now. Cheers! If you have a look at the how to/guides section on this forum there is one labelled 'Bluetooth for £65' or similar. Someone has worked out the parts that are needed to utilise the original mic and speaker system as I mentioned above. The pairing process when I tried was picky and exact. Have to time it all perfectly. Edited July 7, 2015 by dooge
dontpannic
If you have INPA you can get it into bluetooth pairing mode using that. If not: Push the pair button and hold it for 1 second while still holding the pair button turn ignition to position 2 keep holding the pair button for 3 seconds and release it To delete all previously paired devices and phonebooks: Push the pair button and hold it for 1 second while still holding the pair button turn ignition to position 2 keep holding the pair button for 10 seconds until you hear two beeps and 'reset' appears on the radio display. Additional points to note: If you have an aftermarket radio, the bluetooth will not function Most phones DO work with the original ULF's - only Android phones above 4.2.2 have issues out of the box Android 4.2 and up require a modification to the bluetooth stack which requires root access (a guide is in the guides forum) TriggerFish
