mellow yellow
I have a 2002 e46 saloon with widescreen nav, cassette deck behind the flip down screen, old school tv, 6 disc changer in the boot. I am currently using a cassette with 3.5mm jack to my phone to play music, but as you can imagine the quality is terrible. I have looked into an aux input before and contacted someone off here on ebay (name escapes me and messages have disappeared) and my car was built on the exact crossover date between the plug and play aux, so there was no way of telling if it was possible without taking the h/u out.... is it possible to use the Nav input or tv input for an aux in as i dont use these anyway? If not, please can someone guide me on the screen removal and where to look for the aux plug in. Sorry if this has been answered before, but its a minefield of info out there with all the different h/u's and years etc.
mellow yellow
i think it was fruity cables, i have messaged them on ebay for the guide. I think my car build date was 31/08/2002 and it needs to be 01/09/2002 onwards! but worth a check to see just in case. Knighty1806
PeeBee
Hi. I installed an aux cable from fruity cables last week. Mine is an 05 with a head unit that has the 'mode' button on it. I don't think it is as simple with the earlier units. You may have to unplug your boot changer and use that socket but I am by no means an expert. mellow yellow
No cable behind the screen and what a hassle it was just to get to the blooming thing! Also my screen is now green when I have refitted it so not a good day!
mellow yellow
Sorted the screen, I didn't plug the white plug in the hu fully! The cassette adapter to 3.5mm Jack for my galaxy s6 only 0lays music to the right hand side though! ? blooming thing. Not sure how I'm going to get some decent tunes from my phone into my car now! What a pain these bm stereo systems are!
mellow yellow
The more I think about this the more confused I get. i have the widescreen nav with mode button, but I don't have the aux connection in the loom behind the screen. On later cars that do have the aux connection in the loom, where does the loom begin? Could I not get a loom from a letter model that includes the aux connection and run that from the brains in the boot? I think I have been unlucky that my car was built one day before the loom was changed but seems strange that it still has the widescreen nav with the mode option. Pix there anything else I can do other than rip everything out and go for an aftermarket single din. think I might end up flogging it and going back to a vw! I'm thinking a mk4 golf gt tdi. MRyan
Yeah I've got the same, a 2002 model with the Business CD unit - and a mode button. I unplugged the CD changer cable and put in the fruity car cables one, both ways round but still no sound - it just says 'No Cassette'! I've messaged them to see if anyone knows what to do

If under 2003 you will just need to unplug the disc changer lead from the headunit and put the six cable in and will play in cd not aux. RedDevil
If you have mode and other slot you should try that too. Did you try it on cd mode ?
MRyan
I tried it a couple of times just cycling through, I've currently got a cd in the headunit itself so it just played the disk each time tbh! I'm not actually sure which way round to put the cable either so I've got four combinations to go through to be sure I've tried everything. With the CD changer unplugged completely its still just saying No Cassette, that's not going to be a stored error that I need to reset or anything is it? I've gone to the length of finding someone at work with a working CD changer to possibly swap temporarily with mine just so I can get around the 'No Cassette' message and try again
RedDevil
Take cd out of headunit . Then reconnect cd changer up to check it works ? Then if I remember correctly it's top half of back depending if you have the small connector so doesn't cover all the terminals. If you do a search on here there is guide. Type in aux input it's approx 2 plus pages might take some time looking but should help you .
MRyan
I shall be doing all this on tomorrow's lunch break in the office car park lol I'll be sure to report back on my findings! RedDevil
MRyan
Almost forgot to update this! In the end a colleague sorted me out with a working CD changer from his car - I plugged it in, loaded up a disk and confirmed my headunit recognized that there was a CD in there and playing. I then unplugged the CD changer again, plugged in the aux cable and voila - fixed. So it needed to at least have a disk registered on the CD changer to 'use' while using that Aux cable

With a 2004 unit with mode button you should have a second socket on the harness with nothing in it - as long as the connector for the aux is round the right way you should get the aux option appear. If it's round the wrong way you won't.
