Fishman68
Hi folks and fellow e46s petrol model owners just a quick heads up that if your alternator gives up please please do not buy the RTX 100amp alternator supplied by Eurocarparts because it is complete rubbish the one I had lasted less than 100miles I.e. A couple of weeks and broke down at the worst possible moment causing untold grief and a sizeable additional unbugeted garage bill. Eurocarparts customer service team are beyond useless and are total crap 💩 too it's been a hellish and very frustrated experience it was painful enough just getting my money back on the part let alone a refund on the labour costs to install one that works properly. Over two months later and numerous emails, phones call and visits to stores to resolve I still haven't received statisfactory closure so wanted to warn you before you suffer a similiar outcome. EUROCARPARTS are best avoided please don't suffer as I have.

Your correct about ECP though, they are absolutely useless. Having said that, when my alternator went a few months back, I was considering the RTX because it was new, but ended up going for a reconditioned Bosch, I think it was 120amp or something like that and it was from ECP, touch wood it been alright since. momo
I bought my Bosch from ECP - had no issues whatsoever. I think the issue is more buying poor quality parts along with ECP's notoriously shoddy customer service. When my original Alternator went I bought a rmf'd one from AutoElectro here in Bradford. It worked fine, but failed on the 13th month (so outside the warranty). No good will gesture, no nothing from AutoElectro. It was out of warranty, tough bananas! Stumped up and bought the Bosch from ECP and gave them my knackered one - no issues since.
Fishman68
Hi Momo and Bob, thanks for your posts the ongoing saga with ECP continues despite them promising to ring me back on two occasions nobody's bothered to call, truly unbelievable how bad their customer service is. Must of spent thousands with them over the years but they lost my custom now. The replacement Alternator fitted was Bosch so far so good wish I had invested in it in the first instance. My garage also said RTX are to be avoided and had nightmare stories to share about ECP as well so will be giving GSF car parts a go from now on they can't be any worse. R11CH
Gave up using eurocarparts about 3 years ago, most of the parts they supply have gone down hill and just seems to be getting cheaper and cheaper quality. Stick with Oem Bmw for everything now other than my brakes which are aftermarket but its all fit and forget and is guaranteed to out last my ownership. Hope you get your situation sorted. Fishman68
Hi R11ch, I appreciate your feedback I've always been a OEM parts only person in the past but the cost pressures of repairing the nearly now antique 6pot (some 16years old) led to some foolish cost cutting decisions recently I'm afraid, due to family arrival I think this may well be the last year I run this car which will be sad with 225k on the clock she still purrs like a tiger🐯 and pulls like a monster. 😜 I've now given up on ECP they clearly don't give a toss so I'll put it down as an expensive lesson learnt- pay cheap....pay twice. I won't be making the same mistake anytime soon. Take care and thanks everybody for the contributions good to know the zone is alive and well! 👍
momo
Tbh apart from that Bosch alternator I bought I've not used ECP/GSF for anything on my car or my wifes. If another company sold the Bosch alternator one i'd have used them instead. I buy all my parts based on OEM manufacturer, then reseller. So for example one of the recent parts I bought was the centre support bearing for the propshaft. I found BMW buy them from FEBI - so searched for the Febi part number and bought from the most reputable seller (Amazon in this case) who weren't charging an arm and a leg. Bought my rear shocks from AllGermanCarParts in Leeds - they're OEM parts specialists but also sell aftermarket parts like ECP/GSF. They could supply the Sachs shocks (OEM manufacturer) so got them from there. Been using AGCP for years too. But if it has to be OEM parts and BMW are the only suppliers - I use Cotswolds on this forum to get their discount. Always cheaper than my local dealer. Steve B
Avoid RTX alternators at ALL costs I’ve had 2 since April, the latest lasted ONE day. Euro Car Parts Customer service are shocking as well
dunk1
Sadly I had the same awful service from ECP. They supplied the wrong alternator twice and refused to cover the garage cost of them fitting the first one. The manager who lied to me refused to speak to me when I drove to the store, customer service when it goes wrong is shocking. The worst part is being left on hold and having to listen to the repeated drivel about how much they value customers blah blah blah I will never use them for anything ever again Edited July 20, 2022 by dunk1
