Nav
Hi, My car battery went flat and my alarm was going off soo i jump started and its been fine since but on 2 occasions (within 2weeks) the car alarm has just randomly been going off with no good reason while ive been at work. If i lock the car using the key rather than the remote that disables the alarm (atleast the red light below rearview stops blinking). Is there a way to do this using the remote though? Or alternatively any1 have any suggestions why it is doing this? I know it can be due to faulty sensors and such and was considering unplugging my hood sensor to see if it was that causing the issue as ive heard its quite common for that to go. Neway ne help would be great. cheers
Mikey
If you press the lock button twice on the remote it will disable the interior sensors (i.e the red light on the rear view mirror won't flash). That might help your problem.

Nav
nevermind, it seems i have to press lock, wait a second and press it again (red light will go solid for a sec and then still continue to blink after) - ok will c if it was that causing the issues else im screwed
mit
You might need to recode your keys since the battery went flat...
duffman
i'd sooner have the alarm activated, i'd sleep better at night
Nav
I dont think the key needs recoding as it still locks and unlocks and the double locking does seem to stop the alarm from going off if i stick my arm thru the open window when double locked. zimzimmer46
by shutting down the interior sensor (pressing lock twice) the alarm will still go off/on if someone was to break in i.e opening the doors, bonnett and boot. What you need to do is go down the stealers and get ur self a new bonnett senor (£7). You can locate this senor right next to ur brake fluid. it will take u less than 2mins to fit. I had the same problem, the alarm was going bonkers. It's very common for the bonnett sensor to screw up. hopefully 99.9% this will sort it...if not u got a new sensor at least. Oh you can not completely disable the alarm.
Nav
yea i thought it might be the bonnet sensor but its like finding a needle in a haystack unless i go pay some1 to get error codes done. Ill see if the alarm goes off now using the double lock method, if it does i may just try and disconnect the bonnet sensor and c if that fixes it. You might not be able to disconnect the bonnet switch as it is probably a normally open switch when bonnet is open, so if u take it off the circuit will be seeing it as the bonnet is open and go into alarm/fault. You may need to link it out, ie if there are two wires going to it, you might need to put a short across the wires. This is only a guess as i dont know much about car alarms but i do know about alarm systems and how they detect open/closed doors etc.
bobdisk
To NOT set the alarm, open drivers window, get out of the car and shut the door with the engine still idling. Reach in the open window, turn the engine off and remove key, and then press the lock button in the normal way. It will lock, but the alarm will not set, the indicators dont flash. Hold the lock button to close the window. It is because the last thing you must do to set the alarm when you lock is close the drivers door or close the boot, not any other. If you now unlock, open then close the drivers door only, when you lock, the alarm will set. The system assumes that the driver is last to leave the car, and/or unload the boot. At least that is what happens with mine !!!
