Been driving since 1998. The embarrassing French cars in the middle are because my GF was learning to drive (oh god the memories!)

1...Ford fiesta mk2 1.1 (knew so little about engines, did not open bonnet once in year of owning, overheated, scrapped)

2...Ford Sierra 1.8 (pretty cool car for 18 year old, sold to mate)

3...VW Golf mk2 GTI 8V (fun but mouldy due to absent door liners, sold)

4...VW Golf mk2 GTI 16V (amazing car in oak green, should never had sold it though did make money)

5...Audi 80 sport (great car, bought with borbet A wheels on, got bored, sold)

6...BMW E30 325 touring (first beemer, didn't check it as well as I should, HG went then rusted away)

7...Ford mondeo mk2 2.0si (good car but slow)

8...BMW E30 325 saloon (great car, again rust problems, but miss it to this day)

9...BMW E30 325 touring (best e30 I had, had been prepped by Dave at Fritzbitz, drove like new WHY DID I SELL IT?!)

10...Renault Clio 1.4 (best forget these next few heaps, clutch went big time, scrapped)

11...Renault Megane 1.6 coupe (in yellow! there are no words, sold)

12...Pugeot 306 TD (fun car, rapid when turned up, rear torsion beam went, part ex'ed)

13...Ford Focus 1.6 (most reliable car ever, but slow, gave to GF)

14...Peugeot 406 hdi (good car, sold during cancer treatment)

15...Ford Mondeo mk3 2.0 ghia X (great car, had for a while, sold as bored of fwd)

16...Peugoet 306 HDIsw (was given this one, owned for two weeks before it literally fell apart)

17...Ford Focus TDCI (blew turbo racing to see sister before she died, scrapped)

18...BMW E46 325se (current, I am keeping this one, honest!)

Sorry for the essay but I thought I should explain some of those questionable choices!

Jimmyjames what was your opinion on the civic type r v the 330ci?

Type r was a great little runabout, s**te on long runs though. Went to Paris and back in 24 hours and it was on vtec most the way lol. On the other hand the 330ci was a great all rounder but ideally needed the extra gear my m3 has.

Driving for 6 years:

FIAT Punto 2a 1.2 - first car. Learnt to drive and then sold to my uncle

Skoda Fabia 1.4 - upgrade over the Punto. I loved it for a bit, then the VAG reliability hit and it became uneconomical to keep going

VW Polo GTI - loved this car. Not the best in the world, but great fun and cost about £70 in repairs in 3 years

Mazda RX-8 - owned alongside the Polo while I was on my uni placement year. Lovely car, crazy running costs and not that exciting on the road as never near it's limits

VW Golf GT TDI (PD150) - worst. Car. Even. Crap noise, looks, chassis, handling, ride, engine. Good gearbox though. I was sad when it got rear ended as the damage wasn't terminal!

BMW e46 330d (current) - very good all rounder, and still able to put a smile on my face, when hooing up an Alp or Highland pass, or equally happy sitting on a motorway at 70, returning up to 60mpg. Not the cheapest car to keep going, but at 216k miles, it's still only failing on rubber/wear&tear items.

BMW e30 325i Sport - not the best start to ownership, but I'm looking forward to getting it back... some day!

Corsa 1.2 Energy - First car loved this little thing but had a tendancy to want to spin out and in the end hit oil and ice and had a choice between a tree and a bush so i chose a bush whilst going sideways and it got written off

Mazda 3 Tamura - Great car really comfy and it looks amazing also not many around but it was a petrol and i was starting to do 2k miles a month so sold it to my mum who crashed her corsa (can you sense the bad luck with corsa's in my family) and she still owns it and has kept it looking mint which is odd as she normally couldnt care about cars.

E46 320cd Msport - Current daily driver only owned it for just over a year and is probs the most unreliable car I have owned but it was a cheap car and a project car for me to mod and learn on but despite all its cost me i wouldn't swap it.

So far its had new subframe (warrenty covered), diff cradle, water pump, egr stat, 2 main stats, upgraded msd intercooler, rear disks and pads, handbrake cable, poly bushed all round, 4 new tyres, full respray, retro fitted the original nav unit, fitted the iPhone 5s cradle as i had factory bluetooth and acid dipped the alloys so they would hold air.

Still to do, Structural foam from Redish to make sure the subframe does go again, Koni FSD's as my shocks dont shock, decat, remap and then its done. Between the house and the car who both want some lovin its taking its time.
