Ste's 320d Msport journal

Recommended Posts

Hi there, decided to start a thread mainly as a journal to keep track of the mods I'm doing on the car, there will be lots of pics to look through as I'm a bit of a DIY'er and like tatting lol.

Its a 2004 320D msport saloon in titanium silver.

This was the advert.

And the pic I took before I bought it.

Well looked after with FSH most being main dealer and lots of paperwork to boot. Only sight bubbling on a couple of arches.

Next was to replace the fog light and outside temp probe as these were literally ripped off!!

The temperature probe I got from BMW as I need the whole kit including extended wires.

The fogs were from ebay 7000k, there not as bright as the original but they match the angel eyes. and have a nice blue tint

Picked up an xtrons double din from eBay, forgot to take a before pic.

Was easy to fit to a bit tedious taking everything apart. It's not the best unit as its a bit glitchy at times. But it's ok for the money.

I've relocated the gps antenna now.

I didn't buy the AC relocation tray so I modified the sunglasses holder to make it fit into its place. Worked quite well tbh.

I used it to wedge the AC unit in place. it over hangs at the bottom but it doesn't look out of place at all. its a lot better than having the gap at the bottom like you see on most peoples. and it saves £80-£100 on the relocation tray.

Couple of pics. As you can see the coupe bumper needs raising on the passengerside (fixed now)

Ordered a new washer bottle pump and washer jets weren't working. Pretty easy to do, I cleaned the bottle out well and I blew out all the lines also. Worked a treat they haven't worked properly since owning the car!

Changed the EGR stat the weekend aswell as the temperature was taking a while to get to '12 o'clock'.

was a quick 15min job to do and its warming up as it should now.

I did the test with the stats, it was hard to blow through the new stat, but one I took out you could blow right through it, meaning it was stuck open!

Also Ordered a new glow plug controller as I had no positive feed to the glow plugs. Had it fitted by a local garage as it needed to go up in the air.

I've also had a go at carbon wrapping for the first time today.

It's pretty tricky to get the hang of. I've done a few dash pieces to 'practice' but quite happy with how it turned out so I'm going to leave them as they are and carry on doing the door trims next.

The best tip is heat the wrap with a hair dryer until it goes very soft. It will mould better around the corners.

I went for the 6D Carbon. Think it was £13 for 1500x300. Which should be enough for the interior.

Was needing a wash in these pics but, replaced the damaged exhaust trim/diffuser with a twin tip one from a 330i.

Ready for the new exhaust now. Going with a subtle twin tip.

Also changed the PDCs as they've never worked. Do now though :)

Fitted a ramair filter today. Can't say there's any difference in sound or pickup? But it was only £35 so it will pay for its self in 2 services.

I've finally removed the loose screw in the steering wheel, that kept setting the horn off with out me even pressing it!

Colour coded the bump strips over the last few days. Was a bit dubious but I think it looks really good. And the coupe bumper blends in with the rest of the car now. I used rattle cans from halfruds and the colour match is quite good IMO.
