sell as SORN or not?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

As much as I love my 330i msport touring, I hardly use it and have had it parked off road / SORN for a year.

I have decided to sell it on and let someone else actually enjoy it. It's currently SORN, and am wondering what thoughts are on selling as either SORN or getting back on the road so it's taxed, MOT'd, serviced etc. i.e. trying to work out if the reduced price selling as SORN would be the equivalent or less of the expenditure of getting back on the road.... if you see where I'm going.

Any options / thoughts / advice etc always welcome!

Thanks,

Chris

I'd throw an MOT on it at least.. See if you can get it trailered there and get it tested. SORN doesn't really matter but MOT is useful. Gives the buyer a little peace of mind knowing it's up to SOME sort of standard.

If it needs loads of work doing then either you get it done and sell it, lose that money or sell it cheap - still losing money.

Thanks.... good idea getting the MOT as an indicator that all is good with the car. I'll do that at the very least... to begin with!

You just need to be insured to drive to the MOT

I thought you need tax too?

EDIT: You can't tax a car without MOT so how does that work? D'oh!! You're right.. You can drive to MOT station only without tax.

I guess the only proviso would be it needs to be localish to where you live.

I think that's open to interpretation.. lol.

I know of someone who once bought a car from Birmingham and drove it straight to his local MOT station - here in Bradford! He WAS pulled over but as the MOT was already booked (the officer called the MOT station himself to check) he was allowed to continue. lol

I wouldn't risk it now, mind. This was a good few years ago.

Not sure where you'd be if involved in an accident
