JimmyBoy
Whats parts are required to convert a facelifted e46 to a pre-facelift? Im Thinking Bonnet Lights Wings Side Repeaters Front Bumper Some people have the opinion that the facelift model is "fresher" etc… where personally I think it's a lot softer and more mainstream, and a generally unpleasing look… the main thing being those horrid front lights… I hate them, much prefer the pre-facelift look. I think the M3 didn't get the facelift because BMW realised it was a better look and the facelift on non-M cars would differentiate the two model's more. Nick330ci
surely buying a pre facelift version of your car is going to be cheaper. You can probably sell the facelift version for more money and buy a pre facelift with less miles. Then you don't need to buy all the other parts as well? kardan.h, vtidaz, Nimraynn and 1 other

JimmyBoy
But the facelifted model does have its advantages, such as Newer car (would still be under 12 year rust warranty (if 04 onwards)) Newer engine & ECU (184bhp vs 204bhp) (more tuneable with remap, fmic, decat etc…) 6 Speed box (better for motorway driving, and stronger I believe) Other revisions which are an improvement. I just don't like the front of it (mainly the lights)
Buzz
seems a complete waste of time really to change end and be worth a lot less come sale time

Also the £500-£1k you might save on buying a pre-facelift you could spend on rust treatment and prevention. (eg undercoating insides of all the wings etc.)
JimmyBoy
Is there such a thing as an e46 with the 204bhp engine / box on a pre-facelift model ?

momo
Nope! The E46 saloon/tourer was facelifted in 2002, the 204bhp engine came out in late 2003. The 330Cd was only ever a facelift coupe.. But as above, no point doing this at all IMO! Silly idea.. Sorry.

TriggerFish
The lights, apart from possibly the indicator mountings, are the same, except for the front glass lens/black trims. Nope! StuBeeDoo
The E46 saloon/tourer was facelifted in 2002, I know of a Sept' '01 built 330d sport facelift (184). Saloon/touring facelift was for 2002 model year. Production started 01 Sept '01, IIRC. So AFAIK you're both right.
