RichS
You may remember that recently I was asking for wheel advice as I was looking to get a new set for my vert, but as i always do, i couldn't decide so i played it safe and just went for renewing my much needed tyres. I couldn't work out which way i wanted to go with new wheels so i just didn't buy any in the end. There were also two sets of secondhand wheel types that I didn't mention (but I've always liked a lot), the X5 tiger claws and the E9X style 230 twists. And after looking for months for either set to come up for a normal price I found a good set of tiger claws last week and pushed the button. Then today OF ALL DAYS a good set of twists came up so i had to push the button on those as well... argh!! Two buses, right?? So I'm collecting the twists tomorrow and the tiger claws arrive on a pallet on saturday and then i have to decide which to fit:) A nice dilemma I think! I will sell whichever set I don't put on the car but at the moment I have no idea which way i go. Some days I love the aggressive look of tiger claws and some days i love the smoothness of the twists... arghhhhh! Whaddaya think guys?!?!!? TriggerFish
230s for sure. They don't weigh a tonne for a start, let alone the fact they look much better. RichS

Would you know if the 230's go straight on? They're naturally a better fit with offset and J size. TriggerFish
Not sure if they'd go straight on, but the x5s are 6kg/50% a wheel heavier! http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/bmw/230 & http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107321&highlight=189+230+weight (although lbs mean nothing to me!) http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/bmw/63 If you want light - buy my style 216s http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/bmw/216 Edit - those x5 numbers don't add up... The smaller front is heavier... Either way, they're regarded as v. heavy Edited November 8, 2016 by TriggerFish RichS
Daz 330 Cs
The twists go straight on IIRC, quite user friendly offsets. The X5 rims are heavy and you'll need a good stretch on the rears as they're 10J. No wider than a 235/35. Fronts need a spacer to clear your strut. If i go with the twists (i probably will) - what tyre size should i get? I'm on coilovers (an H&R cup kit) so the car is a bit low and 15mm spacers with MV2s rubbed even before i dropped it. Daz 330 Cs
Rich have a look on Bungers topic, he ran these on his 330cd. Can't quite recall off the top of my head. He may have been able to keep stock tyre sizes. RichS

Am off to collect the twists shortly, I hope that the fact they are a good deal doesn't mean that the photos were kind and the description was generous:) Daz 330 Cs
RichS
I just picked the 230 wheels up and they are all BBS originals with no cracks or welds and in pretty good nick too. A few scuffs on the fronts but just as presentable as my current MV2s are so I've spent a few hours pricing up some budgets to put on them just to get them on the car. I'm going to get them test fitted on Friday and see how I get on but I think it will be tight on the back - I went with 245/35's on the back to help out a little more than the stock 255/30's. Can't wait till Friday now!! Will keep y'all posted.
Daz 330 Cs
245/35 is a good shout, slightly narrower but more sidewall. I ran this exact size on my CSL reps. No probs. Get some pics up when they're on RichS

But my local German indie specialist got me a cracking deal on budgets and are fitting them for me on Friday and said they'll help me get them right if it is tight. I think i have a bit of adjustment in my H&R cup kit so we'll see. Glad I decided to go with the twists - they're gorgeous:)
RichS
Goddammit why do I have to wait for 48 hours to get the twists on my whip?? Hmmmm I seem to have gone a bit street - I've never said whip in my life!!

RichS
This time tomorrow my car will be sporting a gorgeous set of style 230's and looking the absolute dogs OR it will be staying on MV2s and looking the absolute dogs. There's no downside really! And I will make those twists fit goddammit, one way or the other:)

RichS
So, the 230's are on the car, and look amazing. If only I could upload pictures here to show you but i can't as photo bucket and this site don't like each other. BUT with my H&R cup kit the rear wheels were millimetres away from the arch even stood still. I took it round the block and the sidewall rubs ever so slightly on the arch - i thought it'll be fine so i drove the car home. As it settled even more i can hear scrubbing from the back under acceleration and on inclines... arghhhhh - can someone give me a forking break when it comes to wheels? How come everyone else can run wide, weird offset crazy wheels on their E46's and I can't run 9J ET39 245/35's on the rear without complications? My mechanic has the car now to see if my H&R's are adjustable in any way. And if not? Back on goes the original M-sport suspension and the cup kit goes up for sale. GODDAMMIT. Daz 330 Cs
Rich just spend £100 and get the arches rolled by Arch Enemy. They do a fantastic job. I've had mine done to enable fitment of 10J ET32 wearing 275/30s. They look rude RichS

I've mailed ArchEnemy but it looks like no-one is in my area. Will see if they mail back - unless anyone has any ideas for someone in or near Bristol. I wish I could show you a picture, the car looks amazing!!

momo
Looks good! But looks like it could be rubbing towards the rear of the arch where it meets the bumper? That can't be rolled obv. I think the problem is the H&R kit - they're lower than the Eibach springs most go for. Looks like a fair amount of tuckkage there!! Daz 330 Cs
They look great man, I've always had a thing for 5 spokes. Looking at a set of 5 spoke Rohana for the E93, damn they're expensive though. RichS

It does look like that but it's not where it is rubbing... its at the top of the arch on both sides. I think maybe getting rid of the seam sealer on the inside of the arch lip and then folding the lip flat against the body will do the job. Let's see if the suspension can be lifted a bit but I'm happy to go down the arch rolling route to keep these bad boys on.

The closest they get to me is Reading - is an hour away but I need to provide somewhere with power and a flat offload space... no chance. So I'm back to square one - i just put a post up on a few FB groups to see if anyone can help.
